Ahead of the upcoming stacked Best Rap Album Grammy category where Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist will have their 2020 HipHopDX Award-winning Alfredo album pitted up against projects from Nas, Royce Da 5’9, D Smoke and Jay Electronica, the veteran lyricist promised a victory to MSNBC’s Ari Melber.

“I’m definitely bringing that thang home,” Freddie told the nationally broadcast host with a big smile. “I gotta claim it because I definitely want it and I worked hard for it.”

On Friday (March 12), Gangsta Gibbs and Alchemist, instrumentally anchored by The Roots, made their case for the big W with a performance of the single “Scottie Beam” on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.

Suited and booted in an Italian restaurant style-setting, Freddie flows seated at the head of the table as Alchemist and the dinner guests sip on vino, toss pasta and let the good times … digest.

Back-To-Back Chips: How 2x Rap Album Of The Year Winner Freddie Gibbs Maintains Quality Control

Gibbs has been on a roll since he and Alc both earned their highest-charting album to date with a No. 15 placement on the Billboard 200 following its May 2020 release.

In February, he released a new single with ScHoolBoy Q titled “Gang Signs,” garnering props from NBA superstar Kevin Durant for his precision in the studio.

“It just feels like he’s only hitting his prime now,” KD25 recently told The Ringer. “He can make records with anyone but still has that versatility and killer mentality in the booth. You can tell how much he cares about his art, and no one is more authentic. In his music, you can see both the humor and the pain.”

Watch the “Scottie Beam” performance as well as revisit Alfredo below. The 63rd Grammy Awards airs on Sunday (March 14) at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
