Freddie Gibbs Dangles ScHoolboy Q Collaborative Release In Fans’ Faces

Freddie Gibbs and ScHoolboy Q are prepping their collaborative single — and it looks like it could arrive on Friday (February 5). Gangsta Gibbs hit up Twitter on Tuesday (February 2) and shared a screenshot of a text exchange he’d had with the Top Dawg Entertainment rapper.

He captioned the post, “Drop a [rabbit] or a [turtle] if we should drop on Friday. In the text, Q says, “Lokey I wanna be a turtle” to which Gibbs replies, “Done deal.”

While HipHopDX can confirm it’s indeed a single between the two prolific MCs, no further information is available at this time.

The two lyrical gangsters were posted up in the studio last September, putting in work. But it’s unclear if the impending single was the result of those sessions.

Gibbs has been on a career high in recent months. More recently, his collaborative album with Alchemist, Alfredo, nabbed a Grammy Award nomination in the Best Rap Album category alongside Nas’ King’s Disease, Jay Electronica’s A Written Testimony, D Smoke’s Black Habits and Royce Da 5’9’s The Allegory.

Alfredo received a 4.5 rating from DX with contributor Josh Svetz calling it a “master class in rap.” It was also named HipHopDX’s 2020 Rap Album of the Year.

Meanwhile, Q fans are awaiting a follow-up to 2019’s CrasH Talk. The project featured guest appearances from Travis Scott, 6LACK, Ty Dolla Sign, YG, 21 Savage, Kid Cudi and Lil Baby and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with roughly 81,000 total album-equivalent units sold in its first week.

    **Update For Wednesday (February 3)**

The single’s cover art — titled “Gang Signs” — has been unveiled.

    1. Gibbs did the Madlib project in 2019, and the Alchemist project in 2020, and still I had completely forgotten that he signed with a major label and released that 2 minute song with Big Sean a few months ago. But somehow it’s his most streamed song on Tidal, so I guess other people liked it. Hopefully this song will be better.

    2. Schoolboy q and alchemist have an album hidden somewhere on YouTube
      ..you heard it here first!!!
