Kanye West‘s recent presidential bid and the accompanying “rambling” Forbes interview are reportedly effects of a bipolar episode.

On Thursday (July 9), alleged sources of the Chicago native told both TMZ and People he’s currently suffering from an episode related to his bipolar disorder that’s impacted things he’s said in the last week. While it’s reportedly not unusual for him to go through such an episode, the source said he’s “struggling.”

“Kanye has been doing well for a long time,” they said. “In the past, he has suffered both manic and depressive episodes related to his bipolar disorder. Right now, he is struggling again.”

Following his Fourth of July tweet he’d be running for President of the United States in 2020, Kanye spoke to Forbes in what the magazine referred to as “four hours of rambling interviews.” Wife Kim Kardashian is reportedly upset as well and currently in Los Angeles with the kids while he’s in Wyoming.

“Kim is concerned, as well as her whole family,” the source added. “It’s super stressful for Kim, because Kanye’s behavior is very unpredictable. She is worried. The episodes usually last for a few weeks and then things go back to normal. Kim hopes it will be the same this time.”

Kanye confirmed his mental health issues with his 2018 album Ye, labeling on the cover art, “I Hate Being Bipolar. It’s Awesome.” Since then he’s opened up about his struggles with bipolar disorder and in a series of tweets in December 2018, he revealed he’d stopped taking medication for it.

“6 months off meds I can feel me again,” he tweeted. “Remember when dark fantasy came out I used to tweet a storm also. I cannot be on meds and make watch the throne level or dark fantasy level music. I love that we are destigmitizing mental health. Gucciman [Gucci Man] and Quavo have a song Bipolar this is so good for the culture.”

Kanye West Praises Elon Musk For Twinning With Him

Regardless of what he ultimately decides, Kanye wouldn’t be able to run for president this year. As noted by CNN, the Late Registration rapper is simply out of time, as he’s already missed multiple deadlines.
