J. Cole surprise dropped a new song called “Snow On Tha Bluff” on Tuesday night (June 16), which many quickly assumed was a response to Noname’s criticism of “y’all favorite top-selling rappers” not speaking out about Black Lives Matter.
As Twitter lit up with criticisms, with some referring to the song as “tone deaf,” Cole evidently felt he needed to defend himself and issued a series of tweets on Wednesday morning (June 17).
“Morning. I stand behind every word of the song that dropped last night,” he wrote. “Right or wrong I can’t say, but I can say it was honest. Some assume to know who the song is about. That’s fine with me, it’s not my job to tell anybody what to think or feel about the work. I accept all conversation and criticisms. But follow @noname.”
Cole then went on to explain why he feels Noname is better suited to speak up about the current civil unrest in the United States and admitted to his own perceived shortcomings.
“I love and honor her as a leader in these times,” he continued. “She has done and is doing the reading and the listening and the learning on the path that she truly believes is the correct one for our people. Meanwhile a nigga like me just be rapping.
“I haven’t done a lot of reading and I don’t feel well equipped as a leader in these times. But I do a lot of thinking. And I appreciate her and others like her because they challenge my beliefs and I feel that in these times that’s important.”
He ended with, “We may not agree with each other but we gotta be gentle with each other. [Peace].”
“Snow On Tha Bluff” was allegedly a response to a tweet in which Noname said, “poor black folks all over the country are putting their bodies on the line in protest for our collective safety and y’all favorite top selling rappers not even willing to put a tweet up[…] niggas whole discographies be about black plight and they no where to be found.”
Check out the song below.
Never liked him. “No role modelz” critics said is so woke. No it isn’t. It’s misogynist.
He and Kendrick r Messiah for old white men to give Grammies.
Wen it comes to Real protest they silent terrified confused.
So record label tells them: this is Ur job. Divide n distract the movement. Diss a woman activist. Cry n make it all about u not black lives mattering.
He and k.dot hopes soon uprising ends so he can go back to being token woke rapper n get Grammies again.
Conscious rappers r the very worst. Least trustworthy.
So Now, after decades he don’t know ansas or Wana lead, just criticise a woman then tell ppl to follow her.
Very p.r. stunt-like. And Calculated to make her happy cus trending and nu followers.
Remember no one ever does get cancelled. It’s a myth. Even r*p**ts and p*d*s don’t get cancelled. Name one person who’s been dropped by record label. There’s zero. It’s all p.r.
okay.
never read so much bullshit like this. I can’t even argue with someone ignorant like you. must be a troll.
why does she get to diss a man but its not ok for him to respond? woman want equal everything, you wanna throw shots, be prepared to be fired back at. maybe it will be a reminder to get back in the kitchen to do the dishes or back to the laundry to do our laundry!
At this point all rappers, celebrities, singers, and comedians aren’t trustworthy. They are going to say and do what makes them money.
So much wrong here. Starting with your english but I can let that slide. But the rest I can’t, Cole and Kendrick have been activists for a very long time they have been marching in the streets in their respective communities. They have financially supported the movement in multiple ways. They are not community leaders. They are community members with money and a platform, which they use to help their community. Other people are better educated and equipped to be leaders. Let the leaders lead and let’s all support them. And by the way if you criticize rappers why not criticize all black people with money. Money and a platform do not make you a qualified leader. This way of thinking is flawed and only distracts from the real issues. Which is exactly what the oppressors want. Stop helping the bad guys and unite people.
P.s. No role modelz is misogynistic? Maybe your understanding of the English is a little poor? Because you obviously missed the message of the song.
Oh, and the song was dope.
This is FAKE goddamit, guys MY ACCOUNT IS HACKED put it out there. I never wanted to add anything to what I said on the song. We’re still working on getting the account back. Don’t follow NoName please.
You don’t have to say shit when you are out there in the streets protesting, those words weren’t aimed at Cole, and if they were, she is full of shit and needs to educate herself about what the fuck he’s doing.
If you want to understand why things are a mess. Noname is considered a leader. Google the definition of leader.
daaaaaamn, the cadence on that song is smooth as fvck
Cole doing the trap flow over a non trap beat is LAZY! Sadly after KOD, all Cole knows is the trap flow.
Not a trap flow but ok i guess.
These new niggas just want a throwaway tweet to be satisfied. We’re doomed
People need to stop. Hip Hop critics are not happy not matter what. It is ridiculous lol. It is the only genre of fans that harshly criticize their own artists. It is art! Some like it…some won’t. Just move on.
He spent a whole lot of literary genius towards a tweet from someone in the movement. He could have spent all that vocabulary addressing the police the crooked prosecutor and the wicked judges. That lil girl & her tweet deserves 2 bars max at the end of the rhyme. It’s this that I understand the criticism. But I believe he did this to unify hip hop in his mind. He’s hanging with Thug Future Uzi and them types too much
People on social media think 100% of America is on Twitter/Instagram and care about what “famous” people think. Most of us don’t give a shit what they think, we just like their music/movies/etc. I have an IG account, nothing else. I don’t put any weight into the stupid quotes and sayings that people post. They post it as if it’s fact. Yes, change needs to be made in policing, but the idiots calling out other for not doing or saying or feeling exactly how THEY want them to, is insane. Truly a disturbing aspect of society.
Facts man ‘
Noname is not a leader. She cares nothing about the black community or black men. Her main goal is to push transgenders, homosexuals and lesbians, which means her main alter is globalism. She wants to destroy the black male patriarch, which is to stay home with family, provide and raise your children and stay out of politics. Black men beware she is your enemy, she is not your friend.
