Kanye West famously supports Donald Trump, often causing division among his fanbase. But as the country continues to riot and protest in the name of George Floyd, Ye is apparently taking action.
After donating roughly $2 million to the legal teams and families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor, the G.O.O.D. Music boss stood in solidarity at a Black Lives Matter protest in his hometown of Chicago earlier this week.
In video of Kanye’s rare public sighting, the newly christened billionaire is wearing a black hoodie with the hood up, has a black mask on and keeps his hands in his front pocket as people take his picture. He’s also surrounded by what looks like his security.
While there’s not a lot of evidence of him saying much, it appears he was mingling with the crowd, walking side-by-side with fellow protestors and engaging in conversation.
Kanye’s gesture is undoubtedly puzzling for some. He’s been accused of not caring about black people for years. In a now-infamous TMZ Live moment in 2018, the tenured rapper blurted out “400 years of slavery sounds like a choice,” causing a firestorm of backlash.
Former TMZ staff member Van Lathan immediately checked Ye, saying, “I think what you’re doing right now is actually an afterthought. Kanye, you’re entitled to your opinion, you’re entitled to believe whatever you want, but there is fact and real-world, real-life consequence behind everything you just said.
“And while you are making music and being an artist and living the life that you’ve earned by being a genius, the rest of us in society have to deal with these threats to our lives. We have to deal with the marginalization that’s come from the 400 years of slavery that you said for our people was a choice.”
While Kanye may have popped up at a protest, he has yet to speak publicly on the event of Floyd’s murder.
Someone needs to ask Kanye West “why” does he really support Trump. Because everything he does, is opposite of Trump’s agenda.
He got in good with Trump for the purpose of prison reform. He respects Trump because Trump hustles.period.
The problem is Trump is not a hustler. He is a rich man who has used his money to break the law, manipulate and bully the working class of America(check his legal history). I don’t know Kanye and I don’t know his heart, but he has stated multiple times that he loves Trump, not just the “idea of trump”. Even stated Trump is like his white father. So, in the end, he is entitled to his opinion and I can care less how who he supports and doesn’t. I just get confused to how someone can claim he is free thinker when he has never had any criticism for Trump. Nothing wrong with supporting things that he likes, but when he f*cks up call that out too. I don’t feel like Obama had a black agenda, I feel that he could have done more. It’s okay to have constructive criticism for people you support. If all you do is support regardless of what they do, you are sheep, a partisan. And that’s why I don’t rock with Kanye anymore. Not because he has different political views or says crazy things sometimes. That has always been Kanye to speak up. But he is no longer doing that – speaking up regardless of who it is – even if it’s someone you support.
Trump is a hustler, watched a doc called HyperNormalisation, Trump hustled the bankers out huge amounts of land back in the early 80s
Why do you think he needs to defend his political preference? No seriously, why do you think you’re entitled to him disclosing to you or somebody else the reasons behind HIS PERSONAL political preference?
I think its called appeasing the enemy. I think Kanye genuinely respects Trump’s persona, I mean books like Art of The Deal have been cited by many as an influential read. I think Kanye respects Trump’s hustle because at the end of the day he hustled for the presidency like Kanye hustled for a legacy and influence in hip-hop culture. I don’t think anyone really supports or love Trumps, but it’s easy to dislike the opponents of Trump because they are constantly standing on the high ground and being hypocritical. That is what I think most Trump supporters and Kanye believes. It’s important to try to understand why people say things instead of instantly discrediting everything and assign someones point as simply privilege. I think Kanye supports change and I think instead of insulting the president trying to appease him and change his perspective we can actually have some meaningful dialogue. Thats just my 2 cents.
So all the ppl saying “donating isnt enough” are gonna go out and move the goalposts for him even further. He’s always been about black people. He claims he mainly likes the idea of Trump because it shows that you can work hard and go against the grain and turn shit on it’s head. You can succeed even if you dont fit the mold. Also people dont consider that maybe Trump wouldn’t be thinking about prison reform if Ye and Kim were openly against him. He takes the heat for trying to make the world better. He decided to work with Trump to get change for his people instead of bitching like everyone else is. And the slavery thing has been explained by him as well. Anyone who listens to Kanye in a long form interview can see that he isnt just talking wild when he gets to explain his points. He says something that sounds crazy but then you are led into his mind and why he thinks it. On TMZ it was like a 5 minute thing, not even, so he looks retarded after saying that line
Ok , so he decides to show up at these events to display his support and love for his people . Yet, he won’t show up there without a full security team as he probably fears being too close to the very same people he is trying to show his love for.
You peoole are infinitely stupid.
Bruh he’s a “billionaire” and arguably one of the most known & recognized people to come out of Chicago. The fact he’s even out there is bigger than anything I’d give him credit for. We saw what happened to King Nip, we known successful brothers gotta be careful going back home. Even if it’s for the right reasons
No, straight up, people in SouthSide Chicago don’t like Kanye… look up Kanye’s moms community center and why it closed. And then go to Instagram and it’s probably 2017 where Kim and the guy that headed Kanye’s moms community center got into it after he wrote an open letter to Kanye cause Kim and her family were taking money out of the community center but not putting it back in and that poor guy… a black man was barely taking home a paycheck. Kim And Kris slandered him, and he quit. Kim made a promise to SouthSide Chicago that it would reopen after finding someone more suited to run it. The community center closed its doors two months later and it’s been closed for three years now. It had after school programs for kids, adult education, GED centers… that is why Chicago hates Kanye. But the guy is trying to reopen another center in honor of Kanye’s mom… Kanye and Kim free… the people of South Side Chicago have been slowly building up funds to make it happen but they say next year it might open. But that’s why Kanye gets no love in SouthSide Chicago and needs bodyguards. He thought that that thot was more important than his mamas legacy… he chose Kim over the good work of him moms…
He let Kim close his mamas community center there in the SouthSide after Kim and her moms went after the black man that was going underpaid to keep it open. He was trying to call to attention that the Kardashians were filtering through money… he wanted to know why they were taking money out if they rich and why he had to go without being paid…. Kim and Kris slammed him in the press, he quit and Kanye’s moms community center where kids went after school and people could get their GEDs closed 3 years ago after that man quit. Kim never got anyone to take over. It just closed its doors. Thank God that the guy love and respected Kanye’s mom because he is going to be opening a much smaller center dedicated to Kanye’s mom. Without Kanye or Kim. THAT IS WHY HE NEEDS BODYGUARDS IN SOUTHSIDE CHICAGO. Because his moms memory was loved…
It’s not hypocrisy. It’s honest. Plenty of people would kill Kanye if he could. If he wore a Maga hat, he’d be fucking murdered there. Which is ironic, because Trump has nothing to do with systematic racism of any kind. Joe Biden DOES. Joe Biden, in senate for 36 years, and VP for 8 years. Yet democrats vote for HIM lol. He’s the face of the system. Why does Joe talk about fixing all these issues now? Where was he the last 40 years? You know the answer to that… Passing policies to criminalize black Americans.
Nah its for protection dummy against police against world bees Roberts whatever!!
cause at the end of the day he is still kanye west. one of the most recognized people in the world. are you dumb? why the fuck would he go out with no team when hes worth a billion. i bet j. cole had a security team too. cause if he didnt hes a massive idiot.
didn’t jump over the jump man tho.. jordan/jordan brand donates 100 MILLION
He didn’t do anything for Floyds family tho that’s what is missing
Guess you didn’t read the article huh? It says he donated to the legal teams and families and he’s paying for George Floyd’s daughter to go to college. I don’t agree with everything everybody does but I will always acknowledge them when they do something to help anybody. There should never be a “but”….. When someone does good. No is a time to recognize people for helping not to spit on them when a lot aren’t. Some point fingers but have done nothing at all period.
A white woman made this article …. .. says a lot
you cant be fuckin happy about nothing huh. he donated 2 mil and is out there protesting in his home state. is this now enough.. all you got to say is a white woman wrote this. shows how woke you are. the same stuff everyone is out fighting for you take the opposite and make it about race.
Actions speak louder than words ????
Actors speak louder than words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A good thing is a good thing. I may not agree with him on much but this was some stand up behavior. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
Love and respect to Kanye for breaking ranks and giving moral and material support to his people’s cause at a time when they need it most.
