S. Lee Merritt, the Civil Rights lawyer representing Ahmaud Arbery and his family, was expected to be at a preliminary hearing on Thursday (June 4). To make sure he made it on time, JAY-Z sent his private jet to scoop up Merritt and get him to the Glynn County Magistrate Court.
Merritt revealed Hov’s generous gesture in an Instagram post, writing, “When you absolutely have to be in Court to stand with your client and righteous protestors for justice … Jay Z sends his private jet. That’s part of the P.P.E plan to get us out of this Crisis (People Power Political Power Economic Power) #PPE.”
He added a few photos of his experience, which included a mini-red carpet leading up to the aircraft.
Arbery was shot to death in February by alleged killers Gregory and Travis McMichael. The father and son duo were finally arrested for the crime in May. Following the arrests, Jay and Roc Nation wrote an open letter demanding justice in the Arbery case.

“By now, we’ve all seen the crime’s disturbing video, so the facts here are not in doubt,” the letter reads. “He was unarmed and innocent and the victim of a hate crime.
“Which is why we call upon you today, as official leaders of the Great State of Georgia, and with the entire world watching, to ensure that a fair trial is conducted, as that can only lead to the appropriate felony convictions of both McMichaels. We also implore you to charge William Bryan as an armed accomplice in the crime.”
Jay and Team Roc have also been extremely active in the George Floyd case. Earlier this week, they took out an ad in several major newspapers across the nation calling for action.
