Los Angeles, CA – It’s been eight years since revered Los Angeles underground rap duo Blu and Exile released their last album Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them

In a recent interview with  Complex, the rapper and producer combo announced they’ve returned to a fresh start on their upcoming full-length album, Miles: From An Interlude Called Life.

The new LP was originally planned as a trap album before returning to their jazz rap production roots. It features Exile’s former Emanon bandmate Aloe Blacc, R&B superstar Miguel and L.A. underground pioneer Aceyalone.

“We had to get back to enjoying working with each other, because we were getting used to working without each other for a little bit,” Exile said about their hiatus and their new single,” Exile told Complex. “So I think our first album back, we weren’t really working with each other. The songs that we ended up agreeing upon were the songs that we actually worked with each other on, which is the Miles project.”

The upcoming project follows the True & Livin’ EP that dropped exactly one year ago this month and the other was In the Beginning: Before the Heavens. The latter was comprised of 14 tracks that didn’t make final cut from their 2007 critically-acclaimed debut album Before The Heavens.

“We try to come up with the best music we can come up with, and in the process we impress each other,” Blu said about his creative process with Exile. “So, it’s like the joints that stand out. Then, it’ll be our go-to joints. And then sometimes it will just be joints that we’ll bicker over, and we’ll be like, ‘Yo, we got to get a third party involved and what not.’ But for the most part, it’s a very enjoyable process.”

Miles: From An Interlude Called Life is scheduled for release on July 17 via Dirty Science and the lead single “Miles Davis” is out now.
