Young Thug Opens Up About Kidney & Liver Failure Due To Drug Usage: ‘I Kind Of Died’

Young Thug is turning his pain into lessons for his fans.

The Atlanta-bred artist joined Offset and friends, Rich The Kid, and Saint Jhn for a mini virtual concert to raise profits for the Atlanta Community Food Bank on Wednesday (April 30). During the stream, Thugger revealed a really harrowing health scare he’d previously experienced. The emotion was palpable in the normally reserved rapper’s voice as he spoke about the frightening encounter.

“I kinda just stayed in the bed and I was like, ‘Yo, call the ambulance. I can’t move my body,'” Thug explained. “When the ambulance came, I couldn’t get out of the bed. They had to get me out of the bed, basically. I felt like my whole body was numb and couldn’t move. I went to the hospital and I had found out that I had liver and kidney failure.”

Thugger continued, “And I kinda had sort of passed away – like I kind of died. I was in the hospital for like 17 days. I left the hospital and my mom didn’t trust it. So I left the hospital, went to another hospital and they was like, ‘Man you’ve got liver and kidney failure. You’re supposed to be dead. Basically, you’ve been dead.’ I’ve been killed before.”

After playing “Killed Before” from his collaborative tape with Future – as if to show fans he’s been delivering this message in bits and pieces before – Thug summed up his journey and confirmed the root of the issues with, “Drugs aren’t good. Don’t do drugs.”

    1. Good article, one of my favorite cuts from the album. He has the Juice World situation, and Future and Wayne to learn that weed isnt it.

      1. you don’t get kidney and liver damage from weed… that’s a combination of heavier drug (coke, lean, pills) usage and lack of proper filtration (water, hydration)…if anything, excessive weed usage would lead to lung, maybe nerves and breathing issues. if he’s exaggerating, it should be appreciated because he’s been throwing gems out there, even if he doesn’t live by it, at least he’s putting out the right message (God doesn’t make mistakes) and I don’t even listen to his music

    2. If it’s as extreme as he says then he will die very young. I expect he exaggerates. Failure can’t un-fail. They’re all telling sad stories ATM for some reason
