Insecure star Issa Rae has teamed up with HBO Max to produce a comedy series based on the Miami Hip Hop scene called Rap Shit as reported by Deadline.
The series was announced as part of a new slew of female-produced comedies for the subscription-based service. In a press release from HBO Max, the synopsis stated, “Rap Shit (working title) from Issa Rae (Insecure, A Black Lady Sketch Show) is a half-hour comedy series that follows a female rap group from outside of Miami trying to make it in the music industry.”
The pilot will be written by Rae whereas her Issa Rae Production imprint has been tapped to executive produce the series alongside producing partner Montrel McKay. 3 Arts Entertainment’s Jonathan Berry and Dave Becky have been tapped to produce the series, which has a May 2020 premiere date.
The series has become the latest in a string of projects Rae has produced with HBO. The hit series Insecure finished a successful third season with season four pick up while the sketch series A Black Lady Sketch Show has been picked up for a second season.
