Queen Latifah doesn’t think Nicki Minaj’s rap retirement is set in stone. The veteran MC-turned-actress shared her thoughts on Nicki’s surprising announcement while making her way to the reception hall for Treach and Cicely Evans’ wedding on Sunday (September 8).
“She must be in love and happy,” she told TMZ. “Let her live. She’s been grinding for a long time.”
But Latifah also noted, “Once you a rapper, you always a rapper. She’ll be back. Let her live first. Let her live her some life first.”
Last week, Nicki blindsided her fans when she unexpectedly announced her retirement via Twitter.

“I’ve decided to retire & have my family,” she wrote. “I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, x in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE.”
The multi-platinum selling rapper later deleted the tweet and apologized for the abrupt statement. However, she didn’t clarify whether her retirement was legitimate or not.
“I’m still right here,” she wrote in response to a fan. “Still madly in love with you guys & you know that. In hindsight, this should’ve been a Queen Radio discussion & it will be. I promise u guys will be happy. No guests, just us talking about everything. The tweet was abrupt & insensitive, I apologize babe.”
Fans will presumably have to wait until the next episode of Nicki’s Beats 1 show Queen Radio to find out the true story.
