Young Thug Promises Return Of “Real Rap” On Forthcoming “Punk” Album

Young Thug is fresh off the release of his So Much Fun album, but he’s already looking ahead to his next LP. In the cover story for The FADER’s 20th anniversary issue, Thugger reveals he’s working on a new project titled Punk.

“It’s most definitely touching music,” he says. “It’s music that the world is going to embrace. [Punk] means brave, not self-centered, conscious. Very, very neglected, very misunderstood. Very patient, very authentic.”

The YSL Records intends to drop it soon too. According to The FADER, he’s hoping for a September release and plans to reintroduce “real rap” on the album.

“[Real rap is] letting people in, letting people know what you go through,” he explains. “Let them know that you the same.”

Thugger notes, “I just want to open up. Let people know that I’m not just a rapper, I’m a human being. Let people know whatever they go through, I done been through or somebody done been through it. Those are the things that make people grow. People that want to commit suicide, you might give them another chance.”
