Will Smith and Martin Lawrence have finally begun work on the third Bad Boys film. Following years of rumors and discussion, Smith revealed production has started on the long-awaited follow-up to 2003’s Bad Boys II.
The Fresh Prince hopped on Instagram to share the good news, posting a picture of a stack of scripts labeled Bad Boys For Lif3.
“Day 1,” Smith wrote. “I’ll keep you posted.”
Lawrence confirmed his co-star’s announcement by posting a throwback photo of the Bad Boys leading men on Instagram.

“Let’s get to work! #teammartymar #badboysforlife #hustlehard,” he wrote.
Last November, Smith and Lawrence confirmed reports about the two reprising their respective roles of Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett for a third Bad Boys film. A month later, character actor Joe Pantoliano was revealed to be returning as Captain Conrad Howard.
Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig and Charles Melton were also announced as part of the cast.
The first Bad Boys film hit theaters in 1995 and helped launch the career of director Michael Bay. Smith, Lawrence and Bay reunited eight years later for a sequel, Bad Boys II, which became an even bigger hit at the box office.

Bay won’t be back in the director’s chair for Bad Boys For Lif3 though. Instead, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah will take over directorial duties. Jerry Bruckheimer, who produced the first two films, has returned as a producer.
Bad Boys For Lif3 is currently scheduled to premiere on January 17, 2020.
