Pharrell Sends Cease & Desist Letter To Trump For Playing “Happy” After Synagogue Shooting

Only a few hours after the Tree of Life synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh on Saturday (October 27), Donald Trump spoke at an Illinois rally and chose to play Pharrell’s mega-hit “Happy” during the event.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pharrell has issued a cease and desist letter to 45 to stop him from ever using it again.

“On the day of the mass murder of 11 human beings at the hands of a deranged ‘nationalist,’ you played his song ‘Happy’ to a crowd at a political event in Indiana,” attorney Howard King wrote in the letter.

“There was nothing ‘happy’ about the tragedy inflicted upon our country on Saturday and no permission was granted for your use of this song for this purpose.”

King explained Pharrell “has not and will not grant Trump permission to publicly perform or otherwise disseminate his music, and claims the use of ‘Happy’ without his consent constitutes both copyright and trademark infringement.”

Pharrell joins Aerosmith, the Prince Estate, R.E.M. and Queen on the ever-growing list of musicians who have issued cease and desist letters to 45 for using their music. [apple_news_ad type=”any”]

    1. America is soft and everybody is offended about everything. Lets go back to 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s

    2. LOL what a garbage headline. You would’ve thought Trump was out there playing “Happy” in Pittsburgh while the bodies were still laying in the floor. Even sites like this can’t report the facts…if they did, we’d have positive Trump articles! Can’t wait for 2020 #MAGA

    3. Trump & Ye have exploited the sheep mentality of hip hop. Unbelievable. Wether its red, blue, or neither, hip hop has truly played itself.

    4. LOL Trump & YE have exposed hip hop as a sheep following. You dont have to be on the red team or the blue team to see this. Unbelievable…”What a time to be alive”

    5. Trump didn’t play sh*t, honestly, no one did. There was probably a playlist given to somebody far in advance of the event, way before the shooting occured… probably the exact same songs they play at every rally to get the crowd ready. Some 10$/hr kid that works at the venue pushed the buttons and ‘Happy’ was one of the songs on the playlist.
      Thats all that really happened.
The people that say this mess are opportunists looking to further the party narrative. Sounds like Pharrell’s lawyer caught up in it emotionally, he may have even brought that to him, who knows.
Either way, stupid sh*t. -and the only reason it doesn’t reflect negative on the artist is cause so many of us just as caught up in the bullsh*t as they are.

    6. I love stuff like this…cuz in the moment people like Pharrell and the others who took this stance, aren’t the least bit embarrassed by their actions. But as time goes on, they realize how pitiful they acted and will live with it…they won’t admit it, but deep down they’ll feel the weight of embarrassment on their shoulders. Once Trump swerves out his 2 terms and its over, they’re gonna wonder why they put all that effort into looking like jackasses to the entire world. Then they can fall back in line with their democratic masters when the political cycle of republican, then democratic presidents resumes.

    7. looks like 4chan maggots and trumpsuckers are out in full force, blanketing every sites comment section with bullshit and fellating their Tangerine god fiercely before the primary vote in a few days

      pretty fuckin pathetic aint it?
