While promoting his new book “Happy!,” musician Pharrell Williams received an unexpected surprise when he was greeted by a group of school children at a press conference for his latest venture.

Before taking questions from the group of kids, Pharrell spoke briefly on “Happy!” He explained that the book was made for the younger crowd and allows them “to really get the worth of the lyrics” from the song, “Happy.”

“This is my first venture into publishing,” Pharrell Williams said. “And honestly, I have to say there’s no greater way this could have ever happened. Because honestly, the book is for you. The book is for you and your friends. And it’s an iteration of the song that I had a couple years back. But I think more than anything else…having it in book form allows you guys to really get the worth of the lyrics.”

Pharrell was then asked a handful of questions from the group of children, including ones on his favorite place to read and if he has any pets.

He revealed that his favorite song tends to change, but did reveal that “Happy” resulted in his favorite experience with a song.

“My all-time favorite song changes all the time,” he said. “I think my favorite experience with a song has been ‘Happy,’ but that’s because of you guys…’Happy’ was my favorite song to perform, but now performing ‘Freedom’ is. It’s pretty fun. The energy is just amazing. The crowd is just amazing. But ‘Happy’ is still fun.”

In regards to his own favorite book as a child, Pharrell named the Dr. Seuss classic, “The Cat In The Hat.”
