Mathematics, the longtime DJ and producer of Wu-Tang Clan, has addressed a recent report claiming ’60s soul group The Diplomats are suing Wu-Tang over a sample.

TMZ claims The Diplomats — not to be confused with the Dipset collective — are suing due to the unauthorized use of their song “I’ve Got The Kind Of Love” in Wu-Tang’s 2017 single “People Say” featuring Redman. Mathematics, who produced the track and the entire Wu-Tang: The Saga Continuescompilation album, acknowledged a sample claim has been made but said he was unaware of any lawsuit regarding the matter.

“I was made aware of the ‘People Say’ sample claim in December,” he wrote via Twitter on Saturday (March 17). “To my knowledge, my attorney and The Diplomats attorney have been working closely and in good faith to resolve this matter. I am not aware of a pending lawsuit regarding this matter nor have I been served with one.”

TMZ’s report cites court documents, which say The Diplomats are seeking damages and want Wu-Tang to stop selling the song.
