It appears that Flying Lotus’ feature-length film “Kuso” was too much for some viewers to handle when it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday (January 21).

FlyLo himself confirmed that several audience members walked out of the movie, though mentioned that compared to the size of the crowd, the portion that left was relatively small.

The multi-talented musician and filmmaker also re-iterated that he had told people how messed up the film would be: “It was only like 20 people out of like 400 who walked out. Wasn’t as dramatic as they make it out to be. I tried to warn folks.”

The film, which features contributions from comedian Tim Heidecker, animator David Firth and funk legend George Clinton, has been described in a review by Bloody Disgusting as blasting the screen with “images of bodily excrement (from multiple orifices), diseased flesh, aberrant behavior and monstrous creations.”

Is this a bad thing? The same reviewer wrote that “Kuso” has instantly joined the ranks of movies “so bizarre and unique that audiences cannot ignore them, no matter how unpleasant they are,” like David Lynch’s cult classic Eraserhead.

The Verge‘s review went one step further and described FlyLo’s offering as “the grossest movie ever made.”

The trailer should give you a brief insight into how damn weird the film looks.

For now, “Kuso” is without a release date. Check the website for more details.
