Baton Rouge, LA

Sunday morning (July 17),  three Baton Rouge police officers were shot dead and three were wounded at Hammond Aire Plaza and Baton Rouge native Boosie Badazz took some time out to address the fatal shootings on his Snapchat. He says that the community is hurt over the killing of Alton Sterling and the officer who killed him should be indicted.

When video footage surfaced of 37-year-old Sterling being shot and killed by a Baton Rouge law enforcement officer for allegedly having a gun, it caused an uproar throughout the community leading to hundreds of protests across the country.

Less than 24 hours later, another unarmed Black male, Philando Castile, was gunned down by police in Minnesota.

“I would say that the Alton Sterling incident played a big part,” Boosie says of the most recent shooting on Snap. “The funeral was just the other day so a lot of people are in their feelings. Even the older generation, not just the younger generation, even the older generation are upset about it. They are angry. There’s lot of people angry. Everybody that I’ve talked to are mad.”

The 33-year-old rapper has previously expressed his feelings about the social injustice and police brutality that has been plaguing America lately and offered a simple solution: convict the officers who are killing unarmed individuals or he says there will never be peace.

“I don’t think it’s going to stop until they start convicting these [bad] officers of what they doing it will just keep on escalating,” Boosie continues. “And if that guy don’t get indicted and sent to prison for life, it’s going to be another war, it’s going to be another shooting and it’s going to keep going on.”

Despite the high tension ventilating throughout his hometown right now, Boosie encourages those who are fed up to keep their emotions under control.

“I just tell everybody to calm down and let’s just try to find a better way,” he said. “I don’t know another way, but I just say calm down and find a better way.”
