My all-time favorite Phife Dawg quote is “Let me hit it from the back, girl I won’t catch a hernia / Bust off on your couch, now you got Seaman’s Furniture.” It was definitely the first double entendre that made me immediately LOL. Call it a 12 year-old’s “a-ha” moment. The breadth of A Tribe Called Quest’s catalog would resonate with me in much more meaningful ways as the year’s passed, but Midnight Marauder’s remains my favorite full-length from the Queen’s collective. It’s deep yet innocent—impeccably timeless.
This week’s Midweek Motivation is dedicated to the legendary Phife Dawg, who passed away last night due to diabetes-related complications. Below are six quotes delivered by the Funky Diabetic that I’ve leaned on at various points throughout my life. Hopefully they’ll help you navigate life’s potholes and pitfalls with the same grace in which Malik Issac Taylor lived. Rest in infinite power, Phife.

I don’t think dying from diabetes is gangsta, it’s pathetic. Could have been avoided with healthy diet and exercise.
phife has never claimed to be a gangsta
You sound Stupid as Fuck! You don’t know what could have been avoided.
@Wise White Man
You fucking idiot, Type 1 diabetes does not come from eating the wrong food.
Co-sign @Dee,
@Wise White Man: you don’t fucking know you talkin’ about. How the hell YOU know a thing about whether he exercised, was on a diet, etc…?
You don’t, so shut the fuck up with your assumptions. If there’s one person here who fits the ‘pathetic’ description, it is you with your constant ignorant remarks on this site. Even if it’s only trolling, do better.
@wisewhiteboy
I’m a type one diabetic 10 years and I’m 23 I’ve had major complications in those years and I take care and control.. Most Diabetics pass from said complications
