A Kanye West fan started a GoFundMe page to help pay for the rapper’s $53 million debt.

Jeremy Platt, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, created the page asking for his fellow West fans to “BE THE MEDICI FAMILY TO KANYE,” referencing the Italian family who funded many artists during the Renaissance period.

“We must open our hearts and wallets for Kanye today,” Platt writes in the description for the crowd-sourced campaign. “Sure he is personally rich and  can buy furs and houses for his family, but without our help, the true genius of Kanye West can’t be realized. As Kanye West has told us time and time again he is the ‘greatest living artist and greatest artist of all time’. Great artists need to be supported financially to achieve their full potential.”

At time of publication, the campaign has raised $700.

West claimed on Twitter Saturday (February 13) that he is $53 million in debt. He has since sought the investment of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg into his art.

TMZ investigated West’s claim and said that it is not technically legal debt, but that West has invested approximately $53 million of his own money into his music, fashion and other business ventures.
