Mobb Deep Proclaims Itself Greatest Hip Hop Duo Of All Time

In an interview with Montreality Tuesday (July 14), Mobb Deep proclaims that it is the greatest Hip Hop duo of all time.

It’s been 20 years since Mobb Deep’s 1995 album The Infamous was released and when asked who they felt who the greatest Hip Hop duo of all time was, Havoc says Mobb Deep.  Prodigy agrees with his partner.

The Infamous duo also talks of how they believe that 50 Cent is bigger than his music.

“I think [50 Cent] has a total grip on the rap game and he became super, uber rich off of it,” Havoc says. “It’s like he already accomplished what he needed to.

“He’s a superstar,” Havoc continues. “He’s bigger than his music.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Havoc says what he thinks is the biggest lie ever told. “The biggest lie ever told is that skin color matters,” he says. “That’s the biggest one of all time.

“We all got the same heart, same blood…I can get a Jewish person my blood if he needed a transfusion if it matched,” Havoc adds. “We’re all human. The biggest lie ever told is that skin color separates us.”

    1. This interview gave me a side to the Mobb that I haven’t seen before, especially Havoc. Big ups!

    3. Ummm..

      OutKast
      Peat Rock & CL Smooth

      Gangstar
      Eric B. & Rakim
      EPMD
      UGK
      Kriss Kross*

      *Made You Look!

      1. One great album, I’ll give you that. ‘Kast is the only group where 5 of their 6 albums could be the best album they created or the second worst album they created. #6 is “Idlewild.” The rest are debatable.

    4. Mobb Deep is the worst duo ever. Hov destroyed these losers already. “Back in 88, when I was movin weight/You was a ballerina, I got your pictures, I seen ya/Then you dropped Shook Ones, changed your demeanor/Well, we don’t believe you, you need more people!”

    5. fuck your bitch ass if you got anything bad to say about the mobb. they’re the greatest, fuck whos your favorite

yall tupac widows can suck on the holograms dick

      DROP A GEM ON ‘EM

    6. Possible could have been Bad Meets Evil if they stuck together and consistently released music. Just a thought.

      1. not exactly duos in my eyes. more like cats that just had a couple collabs. though a nas and az album would be a fresh way to bring NY back. Even better would be Mega and AZ or Tragedy and Mega

    7. there’s two types of duos: mc/mc and mc/producer. as a mc/mc duo, the only one who can fuck with the mobb is outkast. personally i dont think its fair comparisons of two spitters with only one spitter. best mc/mc duos: mobb deep, outkast, black star, das efx, m.o.p., ugk, 8ball & mjg, epmd, meth & red, c-n-n, tha dogg pound. best mc/producer duos: eric b & rakim, gang starr, pete rock & cl smooth, madvillain. that’s what i think

      1. I was waiting on somebody to wake up and mention epmd. Now Eric had them beats on LOCK. Will we ever see another epmd, hell no. Will we see another mobb? Yup asap mob, will we see another outkast? Nope, so you gotta ask yourself, the impact of the legacy. And I say gangstar best duo far as mc/producer. But that’s the category they belong in.

    8. but one thing is for sure, nine times outta ten that someone talk shit about the mobb, its a west coast nigga dickriding tupac

    9. Eh, I suppose. But there’s not much competition in terms of great duos that released albums together. Outkast being the only other great duo I can think of.

      1. You dumbfoundedassnigga, only one mention by you was a duo…i bet you think being retarded is keeping it real don you smh

    10. KAST!

Eric B and Rakim, Gangstarr are in the discussion but I dont know how anybody can deny Outkast, either one can rap circles around the greats. Seriously and I’m a fan of Mobb Deep, but lyrically, and really other then Havoc’s production skills, there isnt one thing they do better. They are not fucking with Dre and Big Boi.

and anyone who said Run DMC is a “duo”, you may want to check your facts, or wikipedia or whatever you need to do to know how crucial JMJ is to Run DMC

      1. They copied MOP blueprint. Their like the clones and more mainstream version of them actually. How about some hardcore, cold as ice, calm down. All classic songs.

    11. The only thing keepin em outta the conversation is they keep taking Ls in real life. Yall make classics gangsta music but everybody got stories of you gettin robbed or beat up.

    12. A Duo is when TWO members rap on the record and not just one, or more than one.

      1. Run DMC
      2. EPMD
      3. Naughty By Nature
      4. DPG/Tribe Called Quest/Mobb Deep – Tied
      5. Outkast – is too Pop
Gangstarr, Rakim & Eric B, Wu Tang, Public Enemy, Grand Master Flash are not a duo.

      1. Outkast too pop?

Have you ever actually heard an Outkast album?

Also, who in their right mind things DPG is equivalent to ATCQ???

      2. Sorry but Run DMC is just not a duo. And GTFOH with Dogg pound. Outkast is too pop? You don’t know shit.

    13. mane…salt n pepa was better then these fake ass niggas. hell, kid n play was better…outkast, epmd, run DMC, eric b n rakim n they was know as one…whodini n who[everelse]

    14. Smif -n-wessun….period !!!! Not mobb sleep. Hell on earth, was the last listenable album. After that it was just recycling……

    15. I’m a huge Mobb Deep fan. But I never really looked at them as a duo. Kinda like Wu-Tang with seven less members. Mobb Deep were more like two solo rappers that made a lot of greats songs together. The formula for almost everyone of there songs was as such. Prodigy verse, hook, Havoc verse, hook, song over. When compared to a real duo like RUN DMC, Salt N Pepa, or even Kid and Play there’s no comparison for one simple reason. Prodigy and Havoc never say anything in each other’s verses. There is never any interaction between the two of them on any of their songs. Listen to a Run DMC song. Run and DMC, for the most part always interjected on each other verses. Same with Salt N Pepa and Kid and Play. That’s what (in my opinion) makes you a true due. But what do I know about hip hop. I’m still stuck in the 90’s

    16. I’m sorry but NO. There’s this duo named Gang Starr & this other little known duo, Eric B. & Rakim!!!!!!

      1. Those don’t count, Premo doesn’t rap and neither does Eric B, and Rakim made all those beats. Eric B was just a name. Top 5 rap duos:

        Run DMC
        Mobb Deep
        Red & Meth
        M.O.P
        Camp Lo

    17. Apparently they forgot about Outkast huh?
      Southernplayalisticcadillacmuzik- Plat.
      ATLiens-2 times Plat.
      Aquemeni-4 times Plat
      Stankonia-4 times Plat
      Speakerbox/Love Below-11 times Plat
      Idlewild-Plat

      **Drops the mic**

      1. True true, I was just arguing that point. But I believe they think(mobb deep). That the IMPACT their music had on people. Is what makes them the best duo. Now its a toss up, cuz I love me some outkast, but think about it. How many dudes are rapping like big boy, or three stacks? Or even trying to rap on those topics they touched. Sad as it may seem, violence wins. That’s why shook ones can be played in the middle of Japan and make the crowd erupt. Sorry ms Jackson, not so much. But I feel you point.

    18. I like the music of mobb deep..they just lost all credibility over the last 10 years, and maybe it should be about the music, but there whole image was about that street shit and everybody knows it’s fake.

      1. Exactly! You can tell a lot of cats here are new to the hip hop game. They need to expand what they listening to because they missed out on the golden age.

    19. i agree that anyone can have their favorite, but most of yall talking like the mobb aint shit, c’mon dawg. they changed the game with the infamous, they changed the east coast hardcore hip hop scene with that album, and maybe it aint even their best work. we also got hell on earth, straight classic too. i personally like the infamous better, but its not crazy to say that hell on earth is the best one. these two album shit on most rappers finest works. from 95 to 2000 prodigy was a top three mc at this particular time, the homie was spitting fire. and havoc gets bizzy with the production, as well spitting some nice shit, but not better than p’s. not saying that the whole mobb deep discography is untouchable, i dont appreciate infamy and amerikaz nightmare, but you cant ignore the infamous, hell on earth, murda muzik, h.n.i.c. their 2014 album was nice too, it was a nice comeback. prodigy was a beast on the mic back then and havoc is a underrated producer, period. if mobb deep aint the best duo, they’re in the top 3. i say that they’re number one and fuck what you talkin bout, you gotta respect the living legends

    20. Hov and Kanye, best duo ever. Watch the Throne is better than anything these wastes of sperm dropped.

    21. “I think [50 Cent] has a total grip on the rap game and he became super, uber rich off of it,” Havoc says.”

    22. Y’all buggin. Mobb Deep IS the best rap duo of all time. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion but it’s not even a question for me. Outkast, M.O.P, Gangstarr, Doggpound, or whoever else y’all comparing them to are all great groups in their own right. But if you ask me they fall short when you talking about the greatest rap group “DUO”. Outkast comes close as far as their overall success but personally I’m from NYC and truth be told Outkast didn’t have an influence on me the way Mobb Deep did. Prodigy might have one of the best rap voices ever along with some of the most memorable rap quotes in Hip Hop history and has a classic under his belt with H.N.I.C. Havoc is hands down one of the best Hip Hop producers of all time and if you don’t believe me just check his production credits and listen to their albums again. Ask some of your favorite producers about him and what they have to say about his production skills. They’ve also been consistent with releases throughout the years, as well as persevered through all the eras with classic and very solid albums in their catalog. The Infamous, Hell On Earth, Murda Musik, Amerika’s Nightmare, and The Infamous Mobb Deep Double LP they just dropped last year are all dope albums with some of the best Hip Hop production I’ve heard collectively on albums. Not only that but they’ve collaborated and made classic tracks with some of the greatest MC’s of all time. I would agree that Havoc isn’t as good as Prodigy lyrically but he makes up for it with his production skills. Not only that but sometimes Hav outshines Prodigy on songs or his verse is equally as good which balances them out well. Don’t be so quick to discredit the Mobb. They got my vote for greatest rap duo of all time any day. IMO That’s not even that hard of a choice
