Vince Staples Says Ray J Is Top 5 West Coast Hip Hop Artist

Vince Staples has high praise for fellow California artist Ray J.

Ray J will never lose,” he says to New York radio station Hot 97. “Ray J is the man. Ray J is probably top five Hip Hop West Coast of all time.”

Staples references Ray J’s influence on Kanye West and VH1 to explain his significance.

“Everything that we love is directly related to Ray J,” Staples says.

The 21-year-old also says the feud between Ray J and Fabolous greatly affected Fabolous’ career.

“Remember when Fabolous was real, real hot? Then remember when he did that shit to Ray J?” he asks. “The last time I seen Fabolous, he had on the backwards jersey, being the man. Then, the next time I seen him, he was dressed like [nerdy Back To The Future character] Marty McFly.”

The rapper says that Ray J can help his career, too.

“We don’t need a Ray J feature,” Vince Staples says. “We ain’t ready for nothin’ like that. We just need a co-sign.”
