With their recent “Blackout 4” match-up now streaming, rappers Charlie Clips and Conceited both sat down with KOTD’s Dirtbag Dan for a post-battle interview about facing up against a friend, bringing SMACK/URL and KOTD together, and their upcoming Battle Rap plans.
The event, which brought SMACK/URL host Smack White and KOTD founder Organik onto the same stage in Toronto, culminated in a finale battle between fellow New York emcees Charlie Clips and Conceited. “It was a huge battle,” Charlie Clips said. “It wasn’t one of the first booked I believe. I was really gonna go against Real Deal, but things ain’t work out.”
Describing his willingness to battle a rapper he considers a friend in Conceited, Clips referenced an early agreement to avoid personal attacks. “So, what happened was, Organik had got to me later on, probably like a month and a half later, he called me and was like, ‘Yo, what’s up with you and Conceited bro?’ I said, ‘You know what, me and Con is actually friends, I’ll do it for the love of the sport, we know each other personally so we’re not gonna do no personals, I don’t know if he’s gonna do it, call him and see if it happens.’ Con said, ‘Ask Clips,’ and once we said ask each other, we knew what it was. God bless we did it because the crowd was going crazy. To bring the whole—I don’t like to stereotype leagues or styles—but let’s just say to bring the whole URL style of rap with two people going at it from—well he’s from Grindtime and shit, that’s right. We’re definitely diverse, we brung it over here, and it was amazing. The crowd, they loved us.”
Conceited added that while the battle may not have featured the type of personal insults that characterize the sport for many, his intentions were still to “embarrass.” “I was supposed to battle somebody else, I know we was talking Loe Pesci a while ago,” he said. “I got called again, I was like, ‘You know what, I never been to King Of The Dot, I wanna come through.’ [Organik] was like, ‘Yo, what’s up with Charlie Clips?’ I was like, ‘Nah, me and him are like brothers.’ He was like, ‘Well he said he’ll do it if it’s straight bars.’ So I called him, I said, ‘Yo, let’s do it man, you know, we both do punchlines crazy. You got the aggression, I got them little slick shits that you catch later.’ I was like let’s do it man, even though that’s like my brother. So we was like, ‘Fuck it, let’s just go, spar, show people friends can still go at it, clean, straight, talented bars without fucking embarrassing niggas.’ You still want to actually embarrass the nigga, like me calling him fat and shit, you wanna do that, but you don’t wanna give out niggas’ addresses and socials and shit like that.”

Conceited, who is slated to appear again as a consistent cast member on the upcoming season of MTV’s Wild ’n Out, also talked about his KOTD debut. “It was definitely a must,” he said. “This has to be on every battle rapper’s bucket list, to touch King Of The Dot. The crowd, they showed love, I love it out here. I really, really fucks with T Dot.”
Speaking on the possibility of another battle in the near future, Conceited described plans to focus on filming Wild ’n Out beginning next week. “No battles lined up for sure,” he said. “I’m sure there’s some that’s gonna come. But, next right now is actually the next season of Wild ’n Out, we’ll actually be filming on Monday.”
Charlie Clips, who can count his recent KOTD battle as his third in less than a year, added that he’s scheduled to face off against Hitman Holla in a Gorilla Warfare match-up later this month. “The battle that I have next is on March 29 in Chicago,” he said. “Shout out to Gorilla Warfare, against Hitman Holla, anything could happen in between that. I be trying to chill man but I love this game so much, but right now my next battle is Hitman Holla. King Of The Dot might hit me to take somebody before that, I don’t know, but Hitman Holla’s the next one. But we’ll see what happens, I love this sport, so once I get a call and they cut the check, I’m there to give the fans a show.”
KOTD’s Charlie Clips and Conceited battle is now streaming on HipHopDX.
