Fabolous Says Drake Lyrics Inspired Him To Call His Grandmother

Fabolous, who released The Soul Tape 3 this month, recently spoke about Drake’s lyrics and how one rhyme inspired him to call his grandmother. In the interview, Fab also spoke regarding the importance of various styles in Rap.

“I love listening to what’s going on in the club,” Fabolous says in an interview with Sway’s Universe. “But sometimes I need something that’s gonna push me in a different direction, like ‘Yo, that guy said something that touched me.’ I told Drake. Drake is one of those guys who’s from this generation, but he can rap. No matter what you say about the kid, he can rap.”

Fabolous then says that one particular track by Drake, “The Resistance,” moved him. On the selection, which was released through Young Money Entertainment/Cash Money Records/Universal Motown, Fab says he was inspired by the following Drake lyrics.

“I heard they just moved my grandmother to a nursing home,” Drake raps on the track, which appears on his 2010 album, Thank Me Later. “And I be actin’ like I don’t know how to work a phone / But hit redial and you’ll see that I just called / Some chick I met at the mall that I barely know at all.”

“[That] hit me so hard,” Fabolous says, “because I looked at it and said, ‘Damn, when was the last time I called my grandmoms, man?’ It just hit me. I had to stop the song and call my grandma. Rap used to do that for people. It used to make you live in what is going on. I told him that was my favorite shit he ever said. That touched me.”

    1. LOL that almost sounds like a lowkey diss

      1. Low key diss? lol Dude liked a part in a song and was man enough to admit it. Maybe you should call your grandma and let her know you decided to call her collect after listening to Tech Nine.

    2. Drake music got dudes mushy now now. Checkout thegrandreport, they got some good hip hop videos on there and more

    3. Yeah lyrics can inspire you in different ways, especially when they are personal and about loved ones and family. Tupac has a lot of lyrics about loved ones and lost ones that make you reflect and react.

      1. How can he run music when other artists are selling more than him? Did you forget that Eminem, Justin Timberlake, etc. existed?

    4. Drake lyrics inspired me to search through my girlfriends purse when she was in the bathroom and read her text messages on her phone

    5. Drakes lyrics inspired me to finally go through with that sex change I’ve been dreaming of since I was 8 years old.

I’m finally going to be a woman now and it’s all thanks to Aubrey Grahms sweet sexy jams.

    6. JT isn’t a rapper, so in reality, only 1 rapper is outselling Drake, and that’s Eminem. When Em goes into hiding as he often does, Drake will resume #1.
