“Django Unchained” Soundtrack Stream

The cover art and tracklist have been revealed for the soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming film Western Django Unchained.

The soundtrack, releasing to retail and digital on December 18th, features contributions from Rick Ross, Tupac, James Brown, Anthony Hamilton and more. The film’s star Jamie Foxx takes on production duties for Rick Ross’ track “100 Black Coffins.”

Tarantino released a statement giving props to the soundtrack’s contributors. “I want to thank all the artists who contributed original songs (a first for me) to the picture. Most of these contributions came out of the artists’ own inspiration and their illustration of the film’s soul is invaluable,” said Tarantino. “In addition to the new original songs I am also using a lot of older recordings on the soundtrack – many of which came from my personal vinyl collection. Instead of having the record companies give me new digitally cleaned up versions of these recordings from the 60’s and 70’s, I wanted to use the vinyl I’ve been listening to for years – complete with all the pops and cracks. I even kept the sound of the needle being put down on the record. Basically because I wanted people’s experience to be the same as mine when they hear this soundtrack for the first time.”

    1. Where’s that Johnny Cash record? It’s all over trailer like the James Brown track, there must’ve been licensing issues. Super stoked about seeing this flick though, only Tarantino could make a movie like this where the Brother is the hero. I fuck with all his white movies too, but the fact that he’s less parochial and insular than most white film makers, and embraces other people’s culture makes him stand out and I really appreciate his contribution to Black cinema and culture. Several rap tracks it would’ve been cool to hear in this brilliant film though, are da Lench Mob’s Freedon Got An AK, Jeru’s Black Cowboys and Showbiz & AG’s Runaway Slaves.

    2. Dope soundtrack but the Rick Ross cut sticks out like a sore thumb, at the least the 2Pac track has James Brown as. I agree with Double Negative as well it definitely would have been dope to see Jeru the Damaja’s “Black Cowboys” on here!

    3. Rick Ross? What are you doing Quentin? After impeccable soundtracks you fucking up your track record with this fat phony turd of a rapper. What a shame.

      1. man you are pressed. so much hatred, get a life my nigga. not everybody gotta dislike rick ross just because you dont. last time i checked alot of people like his music, from legends to fans, get the fuck over it already.

    4. 2pac comin’ out of retirement? Haven’t heard Pac’s name featured on a tracklist in a minute. Guess Makaveli has a new comeback album in the works?
