Heavy D Remembered At Funeral By President Barack Obama, Rev. Al Sharpton & More

Following Heavy D’s sudden death last week, a funeral service was held in Mount Vernon, New York to honor the fallen rapper.

During the ceremony, Rev. Al Sharpton read a letter from President Obama who expressed his condolences for his family’s loss. “We extend our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time. He will be remembered for his infectious optimism and many contributions to American music. Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers,” read the note.

Additional guests at the ceremony included Usher, Don King, Q-Tip, John Legend, Rosie Perez and Sean “Diddy” Combs. The Bad Boy mogul was quoted as stating that Heavy D was there for him “”at my darkest hour” and “was the first person to believe in me.”

Singer Johnny Gill performed the gospel hit “Never Would Have Made It,” while Hev’s nieces tearfully sang “His Eye is On the Sparrow.”

    1. i don’t like 80’s rap but isn’t it pretty messed up how extremist christians that see this on tv say i hope he knew jesus, if not he’s burning in satans flames of fire even though nobody can literally see jesus or god only the people in the bible literally saw/met jesus.. to me its pretty sad that it 20011 and people still talk about hell after the physical death.. christians and other religions that support hell think old women that are nice all the time and are sincere should be torcherd for eternity just because they dont say those magical 8 words which go like this.. ”i believe in god”, ”i believe in jesus”.. christians and all religion are sick and corrupt in so may ways it aint funny

      1. Don’t use somebodies death to preach your atheist shit. I admit them saying that is not right but calm down no one cares about your beliefs I’m not religious either. I’m just saying Heavy D was a G and his death is what’s sad not what a few christian idiots said.

    2. actually im not an atheist im christian i just dont accept such a vile place where people are all tortured because they comit finite crimes, i’m sorry that your on your period right now.

    3. RIP Heavy D, although right now hip hop is messed up, history will tell you who was the most influential emcee.
