With his debut album Follow Me Home releasing via Strange Music, Jay Rock has gleaned some influence from his new boss Tech N9ne. Speaking with MTV2’s Sucker Free, the Watts, California native explained that Tech’s relentless grind has rubbed off on him and his work ethic.

“One thing I learned about Tech N9ne is just hard work. That dude don’t sleep. I ain’t ever seen this dude really sleep. He work from seeing him signing 7,000 pre-order CDs, this dude work non-stop. He love it,” he explained. “That’s what give me the motivation to keep going, man. I’m still hungry, too. I ain’t made it yet. This is the beginning of my career, and like I said, I just gotta keep going, man. That dude hustle like he broke. That’s the attitude I got from him.”

He also bigged up his Black Hippy brethren Kendrick Lamar, claiming that out of all the up-and-coming MCs, K-Dot’s got next.

“My little bro Kendrick Lamar. I’ve been saying it for the times even when I was on Warner when everybody knew him as K-Dot. I used to tell people all the time, watch when K-Dot step out the box, he’s going to be a problem. Look at him now. I’m proud of him. He been working hard, he deserve it man. Straight up.”
