Nas Announces The Title For His Tenth Solo Album

Nas may not be putting out Lost Tapes 2, but promises to deliver with his forthcoming solo album. The Queens, New York rapper spoke with Billboard.com about progress to the follow-up to 2008’s Untitled, claiming that he’s in a new state of mind and is inspired by new cats in the game.

“The last record I did was, I was in a different place than I am now,” he said. “Now, I’m happy to express that different place and I’m just happy about music. I’m watching everyone do their thing, young guys, women, artists just doing they thing.”

Naming Odd Future, Lil Wayne, Drake and more as current influences, Nasty Nas said that his tenth solo LP doesn’t yet have a concept. “My new album that I’m working on is free flowing,” he said. “At this point, there’s not one concept that sums up the whole record. I’m just flowing. It’s really too early to tell who I’ll be collaborating with.”

He also acknowledged that Untitled wasn’t an entirely solid record, and that he’s learned from his mistakes. “I don’t want to look back on this record – because I can look back on my last record and I know that record, some songs didn’t belong there. I really overthought it. I don’t want it to be like that on this record,” he continued. “I want to be able to play this next record after it’s done and feel like I did it. I have to do something that’s new. It’s just in me. I have to do something that feels like it’s right right now, and it could last.”

      1. and Marcus Castro picture looks like a black vagina bleeding like it’s in the middle of its period

      2. Mmmm Marcus i think you’re sexy…Just like Nas! You guys look awesome and Nas is still the best rapper IMHO

    1. Def Jam actually gives good beats to Nas and marketing.. Just lack of creative control as an artist which is lost tapes 2.

Lost Tapes 2 marketing probably will cost more marketing than selling because only the fan base will buy it

    2. Nas is definitely top 5 but I know this album won’t be out for a while. I’d give anything to hear Nas collab with Common and Eminem on the new album.

    3. @Louis Creativity Guthrie are you trying to tell us something ? i am guessing when you used the words flop x3 you were referring to your face or something LOL

    4. Nas HAS to come with a classic this time around. his last album that really made an impact was Stillmatic. God’s Son was good, Untitled was cool. but to ultimately prove he’s the best of all time he needs to drop a classic album. Trillmatic?…3rd times a charm lol

    5. Where are you Lil Wayne haters now? Even Nas says he’s been heavily influenced by Lil Wayne and Drake. That should tell you fucking maggots to show some respect. Loser.

      1. That dont mean shit, lil wayne is still wack as fuck and nas will always be better then that faggot wayne.

      2. mediocre recognize mediocre… love these fanboys, NAS was great 10 years age when rls illmatic… since then he is mediocre, no surprise he want to collab with drake and lil gay he continue his path to bottom of hiphop scene… stop taklking bullshit jason and start support guys who deserve it

      3. jason… we are not haters, lol.. we are lovers of true hip hop, which is why we rushed to click on this link… and im sure all of us when we saw the subtitle were dissapointed… just because a pro says he’s influenced by someone, doesn’t mean that rapper is good, we all have diff. tastes… but young money shouldn’t be considered rap… mayb alternative rap or something but not hip-hop/rap. rappes these days have lost the ability to make good rhymes and ride dope beats.. and the ppl who havent gone down are the people who keep it real, like their own style.. nas is no where near odd future or lil wayne’s style.. 10x better, lol

      4. Talking shit about a legend without mentiong some rappers that you think deserve support, is fucking whack. But I can imagine what your list will look like, 10 or 15 random ass underground rappers. I gotta tell you something, mainstream doesn’t equate crap and underground doesn’t equate good music. Some people would be happy as fuck if they were able to get more attention, they’re talking about keeping it real, because they don’t get a chance to reach a wider audience, it’s not because they want. Every artist wants that as many people as possible listen to him. People like to overrate underground rappers, sometimes it’s better that they are rarely known. It’s just like the mainstream, there are dope and whack cats.

    6. Nas is one of my favorite MCs ever and in my opinion the nicest MC ever, but I got some concerns about this album. First off, Frank Ocean is wack. I don’t want Nas being inspired by ‘artists’ he’s a thousand times better than. And Drake is skilled, but he’s fuckin’ gay and corny. Secondly, EVERY TIME he makes an album, he looks back on it and says something like “I wasn’t really feeling that album”. It’s almost like Nas has the skills but doesn’t have the ear to know what sounds good and what doesn’t. He’s easily influenced by niggas in the studio. Nas…Just make the album YOU wanna make. Stop trying to satisfy all these different people, and cross-over to this genre and that genre, and send all these messages and shit. Keep it simple son, dope beats and dope rhymes. That’s all.

      1. That has to be the realest comment on here. It always seems like he tries to appeal to everyone, but doesn’t realise it’s impossible to satisfy. He loses the focus halfway through or something and mixes shit up too much, that’s why there are these whack tracks on every album, except Illmatic and The Lost Tapes, that just don’t fit.

    7. odd future, drake and frank ocean ??!!

get the fuck outta here nas !! this nigga is so overrated !! he’s fake as fuck !

lil midget mothafucka speaking with the back of his throat like he is the don of the mafia or some shit !!

      1. “fall into a cage of food-deprived hyenas” ??

is you serious you faggot ??!

fuck outta here if you dont like my statement, just post your own shit and stop catching feeling bitch ass nigga

      2. Anonymous, you probly a chick a couch petting a toy dog. No one wants to hear Nas sounding like Wayne or Drake. Nas one of the realest dudes in the game. If you don’t like HipHop stick to pop.

      3. If yall think Nas would come back sounding like Drake or Lil Wayne then you do not know hip-hop at all.

      4. Wow Nas is overrated and fake huh?? Offer up an reason why he’s overrated since you’re an expert on Hip-Hop and all. You kids that sit at the computer pretending to be smart like Einstein make me laugh. Please do fall into a cage of food-deprived hyenas.

      5. you called me a kid ?? im probably older than you you dumb fuck !!

yep i said it ! “nas is a fuckin phony” ! the only reason yall sucked on these hip-hop artists you called “real” is because you have some low mothafuckin lives and believe in nothin except some 40 years old dudes wearin some chains and beefin like they 12 years old !

many reasons why nas – among many other rappers – is fake as jay-z’s sex-appeal towards beyonce.

the main one is when he signed to def jam while the bitch (jay-z) he just had a beef with was runnin the company back in the days

another reason is how he sneaked on cormega while he (cormega) was tryin to get a deal in a record company but freaked out cause he knew cormega was going to outshined his sorry ass on the public’s eye

another reason is how he used to diss bitch ass lil wayne back in the days callin him a phony and claimin he was killing the true essence of rap (which led him to call his album “hip-hop is dead” at that time) and states now wayne is a inspiration to him

and so many other reasons that i cannot extend on the subject cause it would take me too much time and i have a life to live beside replying to some bitch ass niggas like yourself

so eat a fat dick and stop replying since i didnt talk to you in the first place and i defo dont give a fuck bout your opinions

      6. oh and another reason i just reminded of and which proved to me how fake and fucked this dude is

remember when he called out some of the most talented african-americans (cuba gooding, kobe, tiger woods, tye diggs etc) on his track “cocoon panic” only cause they were married to some white females ??!! 6 years later he calls a black producer (pollow the don) to make a hit record (“hero”) who stated he prefered the white woman over the black female

this nigga is not right with his mind he just tryin to act like some but he aint nothin

      1. lil wayne isnt a top 50 rapper son, you really REALLY dont know shit about rap or Hip Hop culture to say that shit

    8. I’ve lost interest. Sure, Nas won’t disappoint. But it won’t be the real Nas if he’s looking into Wayne and Drake and Rick Ross…. if any of them are on the album I will keep my 10 dollars.

    9. yeah… i dunno nas. im not really feelin you bein influenced by those guys (not that i dislike them… i actually do like wayne, drake, odd future for what they each are). but hes an mc above and beyond all of them combined. plus his style isnt like theirs at all.

nas really has to stop tryin to please certain people and just do what he does best. i think he is the most talented mc of all time, he can just be stupid in realizing how to use those talents.

and for the record… untitled was pretty fuckin dope. i’d put it in his top 5 after illmatic, it was written, stillmatic, lost tapes (maybe 6th after I am…).

      1. AGREED 100 percent. I have lost faith in the industry for the most part. You got a hand full of artists who still deliver that “goosebump” music. I need not explain. Otherwise its a rat fest with a bunch of chumps…. NAS you said Hip HOp was Dead and these are the Murderers. THose dudes were accepted even with thier weak ass crap because the FANS ARE WACK. A bunch of corny punks brought up on 106 and park and their lame ass wannabe white girl followers. CLOWNS

      2. Agreed 200%. Come on now when I saw Odd Future that immediately drew up some questions. I don’t think Nas actually took out the time to see the background of these artists he’s named to realize if they are even worth being influenced by…especially considering the fact that both artists are from completely different sub-genres of rap, it just isn’t there…Rap truly is not the same anymore and never will be, especially if you got legends coming down to the new artists level of rap. It’s sad, truly sad…

SN: When your fourth album (Nastradamus) was your worst album to date and it is still better than the albums out now there should be no reason to look to new artists as inspiration IMO

      3. Co-Sign! I’d much rather see Nas going back to his roots and making an album where he doesn’t care about all the shit in the industry, just straight rapping over dope beats. His unreleased catalog is almost better than some of his official release, you wonder why he didn’t put some of them on his albums. There’s shit that can keep up with It Was Written, Stillmatic and even Illmatic. I’d much rather see an album from Nas with features like Cormega, Raekwon, AZ, Kool G Rap and other dope cats and producers. He needs to be locked up in a studio where he doesn’t see some shit he gets influenced by.

    10. I hope he’s not too inspired by these new niggaz, all repects to diversity but he should just do him and not switch up and look mad greazey for the billboard. He should not try to fix what ain’t broken and trying be elvis.

      1. see how when the legends come back they automatically have to give that big up to the guys selling units..its all politics in the music biz

    11. I’m sure he’ just imspired by their hunger. A lot of guys when they get big have to feed off the energy of the younger guys.

    12. Im a huge Nas Fan, consider him the GOAT right next to PAC (based on the message they convey, lyricism, and creativity…not about album sales people) and I have been to his concerts which are pretty amazing. That said, I can’t stand when he is in the process of doing an album because he’s always back and forth with what he wants to do and he builds all of this hype and then the album turns out “overhyped.” It’s been happening since God’s Son. Where’s that album with Premo? What about the double disc album with one disc being produced by Premo and the other by dr. dre? WTF with the influences by Lil Wayne, frank ocean and Drake…they are WACK!! They definitely do not fit Nas style at all. Is it that hard to get Eminem and jadakiss on a track together? Throw AZ on a Premo track, do another Mobb Deep track with Alchemist and maybe get Ghost and Rae to come in over a RZA produced track and the rest of it just be you. You guys have money to fly all over the US and I know you got all them dudes on speed dial whenever you need them so give the fans what they want! quit listening to what Def Jam wants because all it is is a never-ending cycle of drake features, lil wayne features, young money and crap. Do you Nas and keep your ear to the fans, thats what they want, they want a RAW ALBUM something that changes the game. Fuck Chris Brown, Young Money, and all those played out features. Go back to that Queensbridge sound!

      1. Give Nas more credit my dude. He’s just been going against the grain more or less. He primarily makes conscious albums but the general public is not feeling it because the radio doesn’t promote it. In fact it never really did. Distant Relatives is a great album but don’t expect kids to be mature enough to grasp what he’s spitting. Rap NEVER needed radio back in the day anyway but when I read these comment about sales and needing an Eminem feature, I gotta shake my head. You guys ARE NOT hip-hop fans in the true since, you can’t be if give a shit about grammys and sales.

      2. I know exactly what people are talking about “BP3 Jay Z” setting some kinda trend or standard for artist crossing over, going left field for new erra mainstreem aceptance. The game took a drastic change in just a few short years now homosexauality is on the rise in hip hop

    13. He likes Wayne, because Wayne can flow you idiots. It doesn’t mean he’s going to cop Wayne’s style or subject matter. Calm the fuck down nerds.

      1. Bullshit, he can flow. You don’t have to like what he says but the lil dude can rap his ass off.

    14. Nas is ill and can flow with depth.
Wayne is ill too but its time for him to grow up and speak on real shit.
Eminem can flow but lately I think he’s just into wordplay not so much a message.

I really think conscious rap is coming back strong and I hope Nas sets it off with this album.

Common is the only rapper making political noise in the mainstream right now. All this party shit is dead to me unless it’s a real pop artist like Chris Brown or Rhianna. Rappers need to man up with all the shit that’s going on in the world right now.

    15. NAS QWEENS GOT YA BACK. CANT WAIT TO BUY YA NEW ALBUM.U THE REALEST RAPPER FROM QWEENS N STILL REPPING QWEENS TO THE FULLEST

    16. LOL. Any other era (i.e. not dominated by mindless crackbabies with the attention span of a peanut and to lazy to pass the 10th grade), Untitled would be held as a classic and the What’s Going on of hip-hop. Ditto for Distant Relatives.

Instead, we have to cater to the kiddies who think life is all about a good time and can’t see past next weekend. Sad…

    17. 1. Nas
      2. Tupac
      3. Ghostface Killah(Underrated, Check out his albums
      4.Redman
      5.Scarface
      6.Ice Cube
      7.Jay Z
      8.Biggie
      9.Kurupt
      10.Outkast(Both)

      1. lil wayne is nothing but a crackhead with some money, and an annoying ass voice, who raps about the same shit all the time. He does not even deserve to be in a top 50 list…

    18. IT OTHER WORDS ITS GONNA SUCK!

OLD RAPPERS NEED TO JUST STICK TO WHO THEY ARE. INSTEAD OF TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH WHAT THE KIDS ARE DOING NOWADAYS. SMH

    19. this is one of the reasons I dont fuck with Nas as much these days, all he cares bout is money and unlike others who ackowledge their bout the money he tries to claim he isnt

look at cats like Joell Ortiz, Royce etc who have given literally a dozen projects each to HIP HOP for free, look at Elzhi who jus gave ELMATIC n Leftovers out for free as gifts to HIP HOP

now look back over Nas 15+ years n count how many times he’s given back to Hip Hop with a free mixtape…ONCE

Ive bought every Nas album like all Nas fans who hae supported him, and what has he given back

we’ve literally given him millions n for what him to marry some wench who’s gonna take it all from

LOST TAPES 2 should be GIVEN FOR FREE

nigga’s had enough from his fans its time he gives back n that goes for all these muthafuckas who came out strong in the 80s n 90s its time yall started givin back coz

      WE FANS MADE YOU MILLIONAIRES

      1. That’s exactly what I thought, when I saw thgat Lost Tapes 2 was cancelled, he acts like it’s impossible to drop something for the fans. That is the nigga who rapped about all I need is one mic? See what Blu did today? That nigga is dope and less known than Nas and drops a 11 track album outta nowhere. No problem if you are in for the money, but then have the balls to admit like Talib Kweli. Damn, we’re talking about Nas, it’s really sad that he won’t drop The Lost Tapes 2 for his fans, the same fans who signed a petition for it. SMH!

      2. Real talk. The money thing has him running in circles trying to impress everybody while trying to pay his ex-wife support. He should just give lost tapes out for free and release a new album with his vocals only (the odd AZ feature is fine), Pete Rock, Large Prof and Premo beats and he will be looked at as a true artist that rose above all the bullshit.

      3. You fans are so fucking retarded…you niggas don’t buy shit anyway. You always want shit for free…well go make your own Lost Tapes 2 then. and fuck any artist riding to someone elses’ classic!

      4. You can tell that these comments are coming from pure HATERS! Nas don’t need you type of fake ass, gossiping ass fans and bitch made groupies. You niggas talking about his ex and shit that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. This is how you know hating ass niggas are like bitches on their period! Go bleed somewhere and leave the real shit to Nas.

      5. are you last 2 bitch asses fuckin retarded, if I don’t buy albums why the fuck would I care if Lost Tapes 2 was free or for sale if either way I would be gettin it for free??? ANSWER THAT YOU PAIR OF ILLOGICAL RETARDS

unlike you 2 faggots I actually bought ILLMATIC the week it dropped n have bought every other project Nas has dropped within it’s first week my argument was a valid one

If he doesn’t care bout the money like he claims he should jus give it out to fans who have supported him for over 15 years like me n made him a multi millionaire

you 2 fuckin groupies are EXACTLY what’s wrong with Hip Hop today n I guarantee you didn’t come up listenin to rap in the 80s or 90s coz you’d understand why bein a male groupies a NO

now run your dumb as fuck asses on

I’m wondering if those posers at Def Jam are force feeding him these shitty ass producers…I mean they are responsible for shelving Lost Tapes 2….and wtf?? I love how DX has to throw in those retards from Odd Future…..if God Son starts eating Cockroaches I’m done…. FOCUS NAS….GET PREMO, PETE AND LARGE PRO ON THE PHONE ASAP … AND HOOK THE STREETS UP WITH LOST TAPES 2………

    22. Good after “Hip Hop is Dead” I felt like he backslid alittle bit on “untitled” I thought that album was boring I still bump “hip hop is dead” I was a little dissapointed with his last album and don’t really listen to it it at all I actually thought it was his worst album besides queens bridge but that doesn’t count or maybe Nastrudamus too but everything else was worth the money I paid but I still love Nas he’s a legend forsure so I’m sure this effort will be better.

      1. are you crazy? His last album was on point. A step up from Hip-Hop is Dead. Sometimes Nas be talking out of his ass. Inspired by Odd Future. Them niggaz is garbage.

    23. I know ppl are obviously going to hat cause no is apparently allowed to have their own opinion anymore but anyways “my Favorites of all time”(Keyword) Top 10,

Just sayin those are my favorites not entirely sold on the order but that’s it,.

    24. I don’t give a shit about this interview, everyone knows that Nas is like another person in his interviews, absolutely incomparable to the Nas on the mic, he switched his mind 10 times before the album gets released. Nothing Nas says in an interview is definite about his LP’s.

    25. I just hope his next joint is some dope shit. I have the Untitled album and it was aight, but certain songs did not belong on there.

      1. Yeah, that just proves how confused he his. On every album besides Illmatic, there are tracks where you gotta think: ‘What the fuck is that and how got it on here?’ He wants too much and fucks up all the dope concpets with some of these whack ass tracks, especially when you see that he dropped some of his best material for these songs.

    26. YEAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! About fucking time. Glad to see Nas hittin the mic anytime. I love that Beastie track “Too Many Rappers.” Fuck a list, Nas is one of the truest rappers alive. Him, Jay Elect, and Lupe needed to hit it up though.

    27. Thank You ppl. Untitled was a Masterpiece. It was more than just another Album.

      Please don’t drake this out.

      You’re our GOD.

ill name the rest of the list 10 yrs from now, to see what artist out now, is still relevant when their close to that 15 yr milestone into the game….NAS illmatic released in 94. jay-z reasonable doubt in 96. Eminem slim shady lp in 99. (yeah i know a smart ass is going to say “infinte in 96!” (no one knew who the fuck he was in 96!!!) if the carter 4 does good..lil wayne might make the list. he’s been around since 99. note: this is my list in my time.im an early 80’s baby…

      1. “ill name the rest of the list in 10 years’ wtf? who are you fucking piece of unidentified shit!!! you aint god nigga why the fuck should we agree with your dumb fucking list you dick!!!!!! fuck you!!!! and fuck your list!!!!

      2. add wayne on there now. and if your an 80’s washed up motherfuckin baby… then add some more fuckin people on there. people from your era. dre? hmm maybe??

      3. List seems like its made by a middle schooler. “im an early 80’s baby…” I’m an early 90’s baby and it should be Nas, Shad K, Lupe, Jay Electronica, and J. Cole.

Em and Jay are fucking garbage nowadays. Reasonable Doubet was the only good album Jay released. Blueprint was overrated IMO. Shady LP and Mathers were great, but Eminem is B O R I N G compared to those days.

    30. You pathetic ignorant spoonfed PAWNS! Nas is fooling you all, as this record will reveal his association with the Elites and the secret demon nuclear camel tennis cult known as Disnikkalykesohdfyucher! There are such OBVIOUS signs in this interview! You see he says “I was in a different place than I am now,” but what he really means is that he was secretly in the evil dark world gingerbread palace of the elite spacecowboy higher ups. While there, he constantly prayed to the highest demon, Nawzizfuhktuhp! Even more proof is in the quote: “My new album that I’m working on is free flowing.” Flowing rhymes with glowing. Glowing is Hungarian slang for drinking. Drinking causes hangovers. The Hangover was a movie about three stupid niggas that get fucked up! THERE! Scientific and factual proof that Nas’s new record will fuck you all up into following the Elites’ agenda! My research is complete accurate and I provide flawless logic and pure facts! Seek the truth, you sheep! WAKE UP!

      1. Please feel free to stop posting this over & over, we saw it the 1st few times & thought it was stupid, we do not need you to keep posting this, thank you.

      1. I was just wondering the same shit, how is one of the best ever inspired by doodie stains in underwear —> Drake…

    31. Nas don’t be inspire by Wayne and Drake please. Go back and listen to Illmatic, be inspired by that. Fuck be inspired by Elmatic.

      1. KRS-One: “I told Wayne to his face, he’s the dopest MC out. Wayne is NICE! Wayne is BANANAS with his lyrics, his delivery, with his whole thing! Lil Wayne is the MAN!
Eminem: “I have always respected what Wayne does, and Wayne to me is definitely one of the greatest in the game. Wayne is fuckin dope”
Jay-Z: “I think Lil Wayne is extremely talented, one of the most talented rappers out there.”
Andre 3000: “I cannot save the rap game. People like Lil Wayne is saving it”
Kanye West: “Bow in the presence of a true living legend in hip-hop. Lil Wayne the God!”
Busta Rhymes: “Wayne, we salute you, general. We salute you, king. We salute you, God MC”.

    32. I don’t know, ever thought possibly that someone might come and actually carry that torch further, because there are a few heads coming up. Seems blasphemous that the imagination could think up a new and improved Nasir Jones

    33. The GOAT being inspired by garbage is not a good look
Garbage should be inspired by the GOAT

Untitled was a fucking classic by the way. Exactly the Nas album I’ve been waiting for, banging beats are kept to a minimum, more the melody type which fits Nas very well, damn, I feel that the lyrics still go over people’s heads. Hero was a nice change of pace and one of the best commercial tracks I’ve ever heard. ‘Everytime I close my lids, I can still see the borough, I can still the bridge’ Nas ripped that shit.

      1. I don’t know how Nas was talking about “Untitled”. I felt like after Illmatic, Untititled was a fucking classic as well. The fact that most people get too caught up in the beats so they can bob their heads like fucking drones, doesnt mean that Nas has to dumb down lyrics and collab with Wayne, Drake or Ross. Sounds too commercial to me. But its Nas nonetheless…lets see the GOAT go to work. Peace.

      2. FOH, Untitled was fucking garbage.
i don’t really get the OFWGKTA hate here though. as someone who hates Wayne and Drake as much as everyone else who has posted about their discontentment with Nas’ new inspirations, i actually think that, while Tyler’s new album was garbage overall, there’s a lot to be inspired by there. as an emcee myself, some of the things that OF has done has inspired me, though i still stick more to my underground roots than them.

    34. Man I think its time we all faced facts that Nas has moved past the Illmatic days. As much as i would LOVE for him to collaborate with Q-tip, AZ, Premo, Pete Rock and Large Pro….its just not going to happen, ever. Nas is going to be lookin to dudes like Wayne and drake and Ross. He seems to be in a different state of mentality altogether

    35. That’s what you gotta love about Nas. He’s not predictable like most artists are. You never know where he’s coming from. At the end of last year he said he said he was feeling inspiration from the streets of New York. Now he’s saying he’s inspired by some new artists who I could care less for. You just never know what direction this dude is gonna go in. Hopefully he sticks to a street album with no concept. He’s been doing the concept thing for the past four or so albums now so no need to go there.
And I thought Untitled was an excellent album except for the Chris Brown/Game joint. It received great reviews just about everywhere.

    36. Nas is still a dope MC but needs to stop preaching so damn much and/or rapping about being a digital thug. Nas should seriously consider completing a hip hop jazz album. Maybe get some dope shit from The Roots and just flow over the instruments. He’ll probably win a grammy for the album if he did it right.

      1. Yes, Jazz Rap is dope as fuck and Nas voice would compete jazz beats very well. Yall should check out the John Robinson and J. Rawls album ‘1960’s Jazz Revolution Again’. Perfect summer album.

    37. He is doing joints with mobb deep and raekwon for sure and hopefully with AZ. This is where he can get some inspiration from. All he really needs is to do what he has been doing for over 15 years and add a track with ri-ri or bruno mars to sell some records. Untitled was dope but the single for it hero was shaky. make another dope album but more dope and have a better single to it, I think he should have more bravado too and be cocky like in 96

We salute you, God MC”

      2. @ Jason
The comments from rappers are not surprising. This is the dick riding era of hiphop music. Kissing ass is prevalent in rap these days. Wayne is hot so everyone kisses his ass. You can probably find similar comments from rappers towards Gucci and Waka. Does that make them talented? No.

    38. Man some people dickride nas so hard. He says he is taking inspiration from people that people here regularly hate on and people are praising him for it? ha

      1. what is nas talking about first he say hip hop is dead now it all good?
nas need go back to mafia rap

    39. 1. Eminem
      2. Biggie
      3. Pac
      4. Nas
      5. Lil Wayne
      6. Ice Cube
      7. Jay-Z
      8. Rakim
      9. Andre 3000
      10.DMX

^^^ Top 10 rappers to ever do it.

      1. Can’t front on Em being number one. People just deny it because of the whole pac & big thing, but a lot of more popularity came with them when they died. If Em were to die, he would blow up even more and then ppl wouldnt hesitate to put him in their top cuz they would realize what got tooken away. Hate it or love it but Em is top 5 DOA whether u choose to believe that. 2 diamonds albums, best selling rapper of all time, and artist of the decade…He’s at the top just off his awards.

      2. Hell no son.

        1. Ghostface Killah (of Wu-Tang Clan)
        2. Black Thought (of the Roots)
        3. O.C.
        4. KRS-One
        5. Pep Love (of Hieroglyphics)

Others: Common, AZ, Nas, Lord Finesse, Big L, Guru, Method Man, Redman, Tommy Lindgren (of DJBB), Del, some UG British MC’s

    40. Hey guys, Nas told me the leak of the tracklist for the new album:

It’s called I Can’t Rap, Listen to Gucci
      1. Intro- 1 second freestyle
      2. I’m a Freemason feat. Jay-Z

      6. Typical emo music feat. Linkin Park
      7. Typical homo music feat. Lupe Fiasco & Skylar Grey
      8. Typical corny music for teenage girls feat. Drake & B.o.B

    41. i think nas is confused.. hes bitten into the mainstream appeal and now doesnt even have a concept for his next album.. he might just go into the studio and record some random shit like the artist that he named… and sadly people will buy it thinking its fresh!

yo nas, you gotta drop and album all produced by pete rock. i know u were gonna do one with pete rock, and dre. but fuck dres old ass let him obsess over his detox and never drop it. some pete rock shit would be the most classic of classics to come out in recent years. it could be a perfect way to say thanks to the fans, hang it all up and be on top on your last album. afterward drop some singles with the lames you mentioned and school them on their own tracks

      1. i meant bitten, as in he bought into the mainstream appeal. which is what i should of wrote

    42. i meant hes bitten, as in he bought into it. should of been bought into the mainstream appeal

    43. Odd future inspires you this nigga done I guess you gonna put sb on a track huh nas come on man aint to many artist we can depens on please stay dependable and real

    44. Who is odd future see a lot of shit on him but is the nigga worth listening to somebody let me know

    45. DAMN THE NIGGA SAID HES JUST INSPIRED

HE MADE A TRACK CALLED HIPHOP IS DEAD

WHERES THE TALIB KWELI 3MILLION STRONG MOVEMENT?

      PPL WANT INTERESTING SHIT DUMBFUCKS

      LIKE TAYLOR GANG

    46. ever stop and think “inspiration” may mean he tired of young niggaz gettin all the shine and its fuelin him to do his best

      1. I higly doubt it means he’s thinking of making his music sound like Drake’s or Odd Future so you’re most probably right.

    47. Nas, you my favorite rapper but quit making excuses. The last album was just ok,if this album aint fire hang it up thunn

      1. Nas is an artist you idiot and a real artist is suppose to evolve and their work is not without flaws. People like you been hating on Nas from day one.

      2. idk,how he was hating that word has lost all its meaning, now it just means “i disagree with your opinion, but instead of saying that im gonna go and use the phrase hating in the wrong way instead”
btw the guy said he is a FAN! hurr durr

    48. “Naming Odd Future, Lil Wayne, Drake and more as current influences…”

Shouldn’t THEY name Nas as their influences.

      shit’s ass-backwards….

      1. A real confident artist is not afraid to acknowledge his peers. If you agree or not, it is refreshing to see an artist of Nas’ importance be inspired by others. It is called being gracious and self-effacing.

    49. Nas is so unassuming and down to earth. He expresses his concerns and fears as any great artist should. Nas is gifted beyond belief but still questions his position, although his position is solid (top 5 DOA). I respect Nas as an artist who continues to evolve but does not take for granted what was given to him as a gift…HUMBLE! As an artist young or old, you should never just settle and think that your talent/skills are better than the rest. Regardless if the artist(s) are not on your level talent wise, you should always embrace what others/peers bring to hip hop. This is why Nas will still be around years from now because he is unpretentious but has the talent/skills to be just the opposite.

    50. Co-sign. The misinformed and haters will never understand the thinking of Nas. Nas is a complex artist, he does not march to everyone else’s drum. That is what separates him from the rest of his peers and the fact that he is comfortable with complementing others in the industry, without hating because it is not what his fans would expect of him is to be respected on all levels.

    51. u bitchez r dumb, nas means that wayne, drake and ofwgkta inspired him to come back into the game duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

    52. sounds like nas is gonna mix his lyrics with that new sound, ive been waiting for this for a while. I dont think the nas cult members will like it as much but its probably gonna be good nas shit anyway. ALthough probably not gonna be as good as distant relatives, that album was amazing.

    53. I hope he makes a track with j cole and maybe drake or big sean, weezy or especially odd future would be stupid tho

    54. NaS looks hungry again, im hoping for a stillmatic type vibe. whichever direction he takes will be dope, Hes given us tons of classic material with more to come! one love!

    55. what a boring ass album title
sure, life is good if you have a lot of money
      but for most people
      in this economy
      life
      is NOT GOOD

      1. agreed. I don’t think nas put any thought into the title. Bet it will change, and I bet the album won’t come out till 2012. Lazy n*****.

    56. I’m a huge Nas fan and everything but i swear if there’s no DJ Premier or Pete Rock collabo’s on this record then ima be heated. He keeps teasin us bout these collabs and they never materialize.

    57. “Naming Odd Future, Lil Wayne, Drake and more as current influences”…Nas is officially dead to me.

      1. yeah man! i agree. wtf is up with that i ain’t feeling odd future, but wayne, drake and rick ross cant stand them at all, they’r a bunch of sold out asses

      2. You sound like you’re dead already…Nas showing respect and admiration to his fellow hip hop peers makes him dead to you. Well, thank goodness Nas is NOT ignoraant and shallow like you present yourself to be.

      3. I dunno, to tell you the truth dude I agree with the above guys. I’m not a fan of any of those rappers. And lil wayne is so temporary. Like pink dress shirts. Not only that I like music to inspire me, people always like oh this music is good cause I relate to it. But I want some music that is gonna motivate me. thought provoking shit

      4. Listen to Distant Relatives or all these other inspirational songs Nas has done. You can’t compare the Nas in interviews to the Nas behind the mic. Every Nas fan knows that he always talks his ass out and you don’t have to take shit literally. Also, where did he say, he is going to take these niggas music as an inspiration for his work? Mabye it’s how they came into the game, their state of mind, their work ethic etc.

    58. some day you dx haters are gonna need to realize that hip hop will never go anywhere if everyone just hates on each other…dont listen to the features with drake if there are some…god you are so narrow minded….

    59. this is funny! on Illmatic he has a song called Life’s A Bitch. Now his new albums called Life Is Good! just shows how much this dudes lifes changed! looking forward to this album!

    60. “Life is good”…people act like because the economy is bad that your life can’t have meaning and still be good. People need to stop thinking so damn literally. Nas is far from lazy; he is too damn creative to be that. But his critics are damn sure lazy because they repeat the same shit blog after blog pertaining to Nas. You critics have NO originality at all…now that is what you call being lazy. Come up with some real shit to criticize Nas about NOT a fucking album title and then have the nerve to blame the economy on why the album title is not good. People life is what you believe it to be and Nas feels “Life Is Good.” I can’t wait for this album

    61. man i’m glad that he’s growing and liking the new. yall stay stuck like clay. man there are a lot of artists that are new other than lupe fiasco, and a few others, that sound good. i’m ready for it. nas is growing. i’m definitely ready for it. sort of like it was written, or wu-tang forever, those were two hot records, but some people didn’t like them as much as the respective artists’ first albums. man yall grow with the music, but at the same time, make sure it’s real music, that’s all.

    62. Good to hear nas doesnt have too big of an ego that he cant look back on his last album and think its not that good. Cant wait to hear the new album.

    63. Life is good . simple album title
lets hope its good like his life is .
Nas last good album was Gods Son and stillmatic

      1. untitled was the isshhh!! and hip hop is dead!!! both were sick albums every album has been ill from nas!! everyone just wnna hear nas keep dropping illmatics he couldve done that but its repetitive he goes with the times, NAS IS THE ILLEST RAPPER EVER

      2. Every album since God’s Son has been good at best, a masterpiece? the “isshhh”? No, horrible production choices and uninspired lyricism has placed Nas at mediocrity for a while now, hope this album is different but I have no reason to believe it will be until someone tells me Preemo or Pete Rock or any top super producer takes the reigns.

    64. nasss!!! back to that nasttyy shiii!!! HIP HOP IS BACK ! SIT BACK AND ENJOY THE SHOW KOZ NAS IS TAKING OVER!!!!!!!!!

    65. distant relatives is like the a different type of illmatic IN NO WAY IM SAYING ITS BETTER THAN ILLMATIC im just saying illmatic i never skipped a song and distant relatives i never skipped a song

      NAS IS THE GOAT!!!

      1. very different albums, but I agree that I did not skip a song in both CDs. and Distant relatives is pure quality. A fan of real hip-hop would enjoy it. It’s got smoothness to it as well as some grittyness. Good CD BRO!

    66. His influences? Lil wayne, OKFAGATA, etc. Man with some influences like that I hope he doesn’t flop or go sideways on this one DUDE.

    67. I feel like I was asleep when untitled came out. To tell you the truth I forget it was even there I mean I know the a handful of the songs but I didn’t get the cd like I usually would or download it atleast. And looking throuhg the tracks now I gotta say it was a good CD. I like the 80’s feel of the tracks with synths in them. Nas kills them 80s type tracks. Hope he does something like that. i.e Everybody wants to rule the world. etc. etc. etc. hes done it many times!

    68. Sounds like a disappointment with this album if his influences are Lil Wayne & Drake, so does that mean it’s going to be a pop album? Maybe he needs to remember what his fans want, instead of feeding us pop bullshit.

      1. Agreed! He needs to get the fuck off def jam before it ruins him, and do that preemo, pete rock double disc he has been talking so vaguely about. Just go all in on that. If this albums gonna be pop bullshit immatweet him a letter of complaint!

    69. Im excited sounds like nas is trying to refresh himself. After stillmatic, nas hasnt really had a classic album. He’s always been a great lyricist, but the needs some dope production. I hope this album can deliver some fresh classic material, (probably why hes taking influence from these contemporary rappers)

P.S. He needs to do that LP with Premo.

    70. He should get Lupe & AZ on that album. Damn, can’t wait for it, Nas is the greatest of all time.

    71. can’t wait
he should get some rza, kanye, pete rock production
and a raekwon + ghostface collabo
      would be a dope album

    72. I found another terrible rapper called Elzhi. He truly sucks. Nerd rap sucks. Listen to Gucci!

      It’s Gucci Time!

    73. He needs to get back to nasty lyrical nas quick! Get the fuck off def jam, release lost tapes and get your name back. Release that double disc premier/ Pete rock disc! I want to see some collaborations with likes of lupe, j Cole, jay electronica, elzhi- if you do a track with lil Wayne or Drake I might lose all hope in you!

    74. I wanna hear Nas over some of them Odd Future joints. Throw Frank Ocean on the hook. Nas needs to re-energize his flow and lyrics. Drake is fucking terrible so I can’t say anyting good about that but I don’t hate on Odd Future. They’re doing their thing. I just hope Nas keeps that consciousness in his rhymes.

      1. I AM was cold wtf you talkin?

And the second disc of STREET’S DISCIPLE was complete garbage. The first disc was ALRIGHT.

NASTRADAMUS WAS TRASH. Two good songs. UGH.

The rest of the list is OK wit me. NAS IS THE BEST RAPPER ALIVE.

    75. I Am and Street’s Disciple are not garbage, they’re fairly solid albums. Nastradamus has a few good songs, a few mediocre songs. Untitled is definitely not a classic.

      1. Diggy Simmons (not saying that Diggy is bad…but he shouldn’t be a guest appearance on nas’s album), Lady Gaga…Nigga throw yourself in a chokehold please…

    76. i agree with this list
wasnt feeling nastrudamus or streets disciple…but streets disciple in my opinion is his worst album…2 discs or garbage beats and off beat rhymes….number key for a good nas album is good production

    77. i didnt know it was possible for nas to be shooken up by new talent lol. half the industry are his sons hahaha. well i guess it just shows the real artist in him and the strength to grow. on the real though, none of these dudes are even close to him lyrically after all this time, so when it comes to that he has nothing to worry about. i dislike a lot of what odd future seems to be about but frank ocean is def a talent.

    78. @Mr.Flamboyant u crazy if Gods Son was garbage. is last three albums he didnt have the right production. He need to get primo and alchemist on the album. havoc too.Its young producers out there too thats nice. I want him too take his time and bring a classic our way. according to jay-z its ten years so a classic is do.lol

    79. I like to hear Nas making moves. He needs to push this and keeps his fans updated. he need to put up a website and get our ideas. I understand him on everyone is doing there thing but fuck weezy and drake. He should have lupe and jay electronica on the album. Dont try to make it mainstream. ur fans are loyal and we still here. jay-z said every 10 year average so itas ten years from Stillmatic. a 5 mic classic is due.lol

    80. It’s sad that he is being influenced by such whack garbage…if he went back to being influenced by Donny hathaway and shit like that, I might actually consider buying this album..oh well.

    81. Yeah, it’s unbelieveable how underrated Distant Relatives is. Nas dropped some of his best lyrics since Illmatic. I guess if it woulda been a Nas solo everyone would be on it’s dick.

    82. If he had cut down streets disciple to one cd it would have been a v good album. And come on! Stillmatic is a classic!!

    83. Here’s my honest opinion on Nas’s albums:

Illmatic – Classic, best Hip Hop album ever made.

It Was Written – Classic, 3rd best rap album of 1996 behind All Eyez On Me and Reasonable Doubt

I Am – Not my favorite but still a good album. DJ Premier produced songs are all classics.

Nastradamus – Terrible. His worst album. 2 or 3 good songs. Every genius has a misstep.

Stillmatic – Classic. Way better than the Blueprint and definitely the best hip hop album of 2001.

God’s Son – Classic. Not as good as the other 4 classics but still a classic. Most unique and personal album by Nas.

Lost Tapes – Classic. The most well written and complex Nas album.

Street’s Disciple – Trashy. Not great. 5 or 6 good songs but not much replay value.

Hip Hop Is Dead – Solid. A little commercial but it’s pretty good. Most songs have replay value.

Untitled – Good. A little too commercial on some of the beats and featured guests but still a solid album.

Distant Relatives – Great. One of the best Hip Hop albums of the year.

      Life Is Good – ?

      1. It surprises me that everyone thinks ‘Streets Disciple’ was weak. To me, thats a great album. His best album lyrically behind his first two. Going by the guests and the title of this album, I’d be surprised if it wasn’t his weakest album yet.

What happened to these niggas man? Nas and Mobb Deep. Seriously. And don’t give me that ‘they just grew up’ shit. Because it’d be one thing if their maturity was showing up in their music, but it isn’t. These niggas have no confidence in their own skills anymore. It’s like they’re trying to camouflage their artistic shortcomings through gimmicks, cliche guests appearances, stupid album titles, books, and everything else except just GOOD MUSIC. It can’t be that fuckin’ hard. I mean, they have access to state of the art equipment and studios. They can work with almost anyone they want at the drop of a hat, yet the quality of their work continues to falter. Hip-Hop is fuckin’ dead. Nas said it himself, yet he falls vic to the same bullshit as everyone else. As far as that legendary draftclass of NY MCs from the early to mid nineties, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Cormega and Jay-Z are probably the only ones that were able to lift or maintain the quality of their music for the most part. Nas has to be the most frustrating though, because he’s the best of all them. Nas is like the Manny Ramirez of Rap. He’s great, but you still feel like he never really gave his all. Like his heart was never really in it.

      2. But dude has a limitless amount of quality material that ain’t necessary on these albums. There is actually alot more to Nas’s street catalogue than you might think and on those albums

      3. I agree with Sensaye. I loved Street’s Disciple. Disc 1 itself is almost a classic. Disc 2 could’ve had two or three songs taken off but it was good too. Probably Nas’ most underrated album in his catalogue. I swear some people need their ears checked…

    84. NaS is the GOAT. I bet he loves it when people count him out, thats when he brings his best (stillmatic). He is inspired by the current rappers’ hustle, it doesnt mean he wants to sound like them.. idiots! He is an ORIGINATOR!

    85. It Was Written and Stillmatic are classics, the only problem with IWW is that it came out after Illmatic, the greatest album of all time.

    86. for me it goes
      Illmatic – classic

It was written – good album

I am – good album premo did some good stuff

Nastradamus – a couple good songs , rest is weak

Stillmatic – great album , near classic

Gods Son – very good album

Streets Disciple – not very good

Hip Hop Is Dead – mediocre album

      Untitled – another average album

Distant Relatives – Nice collabo album

      Life is Good ???????????

      1. It was written just a good album? lmao its a classic bro & Hip Hop is Dead is a near classic imo if it wasnt for some lame beats..the lyrics were great

    87. Illmatic: Greatest Hip Hop album of all time.10/10

      It Was Written: Under-appreciated classic.9/10

I Am: Supposed to be a double-disc classic equal to or even better than illmatic, but got heavily bootlegged.
Actual release: Very good album but not quite classic.8/10

Nastradamus: His worst album, but better than half shit that is out today. A few good songs and a great one (project windows). Good album 7/10

      Stillmatic: Classic.9/10

      God’s Son: Great album.8/10

Street’s Disciple: If it was minus a few songs on 1 disc it woula been classic.
      Actual release: Great Album 8.5/10

Hip Hop is dead: Classic lyrics, productio is a bit too mainstream. Near classic album 8.5/10

      Untitled: Great album. 8/10

      Life is Good:???

      1. I agree with you, except I would give Streets Disciple a 9/10 and Stillmatic a 9.5/10

      2. I’d give Hip Hop is Dead, It Was Written and Stillmatic all 9.5/10.

Plus throw The Lost Tapes in – 9.5/10.

I agree with all the others.

    88. To me, Nas has 3 ‘true” classic albums and that’s:
      Illmatic (my fav)
      Lost tapes (2nd fav)
      It was written (3rd fav).
*Stillmatic (4th Fav) < There's some politics behind the "clssic" ststus of this album. Real fans know this could have been better.

      1. Im still yet to understand y people r sceptical bout Stillmatic being a classic? May be if he had made it a10 track album y’all would av been cool.

      2. go and check gods son again.. imo that is a classic as well.. listen to last real nigga alive, carry the cross, one more dance with mama, thug mansion.. it goes on and on with that album.. classic

    89. I truly think Nas should get Hi-tek on a few joints, him and statik selektah for that fresh 90’s sound, especially if he don’t get primeo.

      1. Statik is that dude, he’s able to change that 90’s sounds a little to make clear it doesn’t sound like a copy or dated.

    90. I think Nas should make “Life is Good” HIS OWN “Blood On the Tracks”, by Bob Dylan. I’m not saying he should pick up an acousitc guitar and harmonica, but I honestly can’t think of a better musical influence for Nas right now. Think about it. When Dylan made BOTT he was in his mid 30’s, was entrenched in bad circumstances from a failed marriage, was losing ground with fans who wanted him to return to his “roots”, and was trying to reconcile his other turmoils by reflecting what went wrong. Now pause and think about where Nas is in his life compared to Dylan:

      Age:Check
      Aftermath of Failed Marriage:Check
      Indifferent Fan Base:Check
      Trying to Reconcile Problems:Check
      Greatest Lyricist of his time:Check

So there’s your influence right there. And if all goes well then “Life Is Good” will be to “Illmatic” what “Blood on the Tracks” was to “Highway 61 Revisted”.

      1. Great comment bro. Only thing I would diasgree with would be that Nas has an ‘indifferent fanbase’. I think Nas fans are pretty vocal overall…but probably drowned out by the Young Money drones…

    91. nas cut the bullshit and stop kissing ass

nas i love you and your albums
      please dont sellout yo ass

    92. I know one thing for sure, it’s gotta be damn difficult to be Nas right now. I mean he’s got all his hungry-ass-fans to feed & ofcourse it’s gotta be nothing less than heat, no commercial crap, no watered down material neither, he’s dealing with all kinda personal battles behind the scenes, trying to gain new fans at the same time, and kinda live up to the critically acclaimed album he just dropped w/Marley, THE PRESSURE!!! These things among others have certainly gotta be going through his mind, and it cant be easy. He’s got a lot of proving to do and can only accomplish it by digging REAL deep inside himself for this album. My only suggestion to Nas will be to PLEASE for the love of heaven and earth stay the hell away from Will-I-Am’s production, anything else I can forgive. I’m keeping my fingers crossed afterall he’s Nas for goodness sakes…
