TMZ recently caught up with O’Shea Jackson Jr., Ice Cube’s son and star of the upcoming film Straight Outta Compton, to speak on the movie and growing up with Ice Cube as one of his parents.
In regards to Straight Outta Compton, Jackson Jr. was asked if he had to grow his hair out in order to play the role of his father, who rocked a Jheri curl during most of his time spent in N.W.A. He then revealed that Universal Studios dished out $15,000 for Jheri curl wigs he could wear during filming for the biopic.
“No, it was $15,000 wigs. It’s a serious movie, man. You should go see it,” O’Shea Jackson Jr. said while speaking with TMZ.
Prior to speaking on Straight Outta Compton, Jackson Jr. was asked who the primary disciplinarian was out of his two parents. In response, he explained that they were both “very reasonable” as parents.
“They both were very reasonable parents,” he said. “And every parent—If you don’t bring no bullshit then there shouldn’t be no shit.”
Earlier this month, during an appearance on Dr. Dre’s “The Pharmacy” Beats 1 radio show, Ice Cube spoke on watching his son play him in Straight Outta Compton.
“I describe it as watching your son win the Super Bowl for the same team you won the Super Bowl with,” Ice Cube said. “That’s the feeling I got watching him work, knowing that he was in great hands.”
Straight Outta Compton is scheduled for release in theaters on August 14.

Lol the journalism on this site is bad. He recalls ? Cause it was like a year or less. Recall isn’t really the proper word to use here
That is par for the course homie. The writers on this site are always using the wrong words/phrases. I saw one article that said “run the gambit,” I know Lupe says it in Mural for wordplay, but that is not a real phrase. It’s “run the gamut.” Honestly I’ve yet to read an article here that was error free.
But you start your sentence with “lol”
Hip hop journalism overall is pretty dismal now. I read articles all the time where the spelling is hella off and the sentences make absolutely no sense.
The readers below me are correct. The ‘journalism’ if you can even call it that is atrocious. I use to troll the writers on this site in hopes they would put forth a better effort, I guess I was wrong to assume that. My thing is, the level of unprofessional-ism reflects poorly on the culture of Hip-Hop. Then I though, maybe these fuckers don’t actually give a shit about Hip-Hop, don’t care about the culture and are just using DX for a quick buck and ad revenue. Even if this is the case, as a writer, a journalist…wouldn’t you take some pride in your work? I mean goddamn, how long does it take to correct a spelling error or improper grammar usage. Word literally fixes these errors for you. Being fans of Hip-Hop we have the right to give these writers as much shit as we please. I have no problem calling out these illiterate culture vultures and neither should you.
