Ice Cube Says Lil Wayne Is The Best Rapper Alive: ‘His Metaphors Are Otherworldly’

When asked to list his GOAT rapper, Ice Cube didn’t shy away from giving Lil Wayne his well-earned flowers.

“It’s hard to beat Lil Wayne,” Cube said while interviewing on the podcast On The Guest List. “His metaphors are otherworldly. As far as lyrics and can make hits, you know. Has been copied all these years and nothing but clones of Lil Wayne at the end of the day. So I just think, besides myself. I’ve done so much for the culture, but uh, yeah, yeah he’s dope.”

Speaking of the best rappers alive, Ice Cube has been hard at work at bringing his Mount Westmore super group to life. The group is comprised of Snoop Dogg, E-4o, and Too $hort who all are some serious GOAT contenders. While the group’s debut project Bad MFs is out, it was only released on Blockchain in the Metaverse, and not on any DSP.

“You know what it is,” Ice Cube said in a special video. “Mount Westmore — you got the four pillars of West Coast Hip Hop. We are down with Gala Music. We are coming out with that Mount Westmore ‘BAD MFs’ album. There is going to be new music, new experiences, shows, everything that the Westmore got, baby, you gonna get it.”

In an interview with HipHopDX, Too $hort said one thing they all realized as they made the record was just how legendary they were to the game.

“I’m going to tell you one thing, one beautiful thing about the process is that early on we all acknowledge that in the studio, we are supreme alphas,” he said. “We’ve always been that way, but on this project, we gave each other the authority to criticize, critique, veto, make suggestions, and just everything is like hands-down, I trust what you saying.

“It literally has been said, ‘Bro, that verse you spit yesterday was wack,’ and then bro go back and redo that verse, and like, ‘You came with it this time.’ It’s that kind of hold me up kind of situation.”

    1. It is so hard to claim the GOAT, I go further back than Wayne: Rakim Allah, Nasir The God, E-40, Pac, Scarface, Cube, etc. Yet everyone is entitled to their opinion no matter how uninformed it may be. Factz

    2. No matter what anyone says eminem is the greatest rapper alive or dead! I understand your raceism makes it hard to admit that a white boy is thd greatest. So sorry but thats how it is!

      1. Actually, kendrick has always stated tupac was his top influence in starting to rap as a kid. Yes, Wayne was a big influence too… but Kendricks Wayne inspired remakes kind of suck. His tupac inspired music sounds 1000x better. Your logic is Iike solely crediting Masta Ace for Eminem, when eminem was influenced by hundreds if not thousands of artists, just like anyone else.

    3. So many legends praise Wayne and call him one of (if not the) best ever and yet y’all internet nerds seem to think you know more than these legends and discredit their expert opinions. They literally live this rap life and know what it means to be a godly MC so their opinions should be respected heavily. Just because a rapper like Wayne isn’t your particular taste doesn’t mean you call him wack and discredit a legend like Ice Cube as some of these comments do on every Wayne article.

      1. Nah. All because ice cube is considered a hiphop legend doesn’t mean we need to act as if his opinion on who’s the best alive is any more concrete than anyone else’s opinion. I see you are one of tbe “trust the experts” drones lol. Wayne definitely had the game on lock and lots of hits and talent, but the best alive? I’d have to strongly disagree. I think even JayZ had better, more talented hits… and I think Jay is very overrated. Wayne is the reason hiphop sounds like it does currently in the mainstream.

    4. Ice Cube is dumb for that….People have been brainwashed to think Lil Wayne is good because he spent so many years hyping himself up and saying he’s the best. If Lil Wayne never said that, no one would think of him as talented and definitely not the best.

    5. Otherworldly as in make no fuckin sense half the time. Carter II/Dedication Wayne was in the discussion, Carter III onward was terrible. Recently he been ight tho.

      1. Real G’z move in silence like lasagna certainly is hence why it’s been quoted literally thousands of times.

      2. what ur 47 chromosome asss doesnt realize is wayne has 10000 songs. ya a line wont hit once in a while

    6. Wayne’s horrible voice makes his music unlistenable. I have tried many times, but it’s just that voice that I can’t deal with. Too high-pitched to be pleasing to listen to.

      1. wayne has forgotten more hits than your favorite 7 rappers combined. he had 78 charted songs in 2007

    7. Wayne is far from GOAT status. He passes the DAF (Dope as fuck) test, but definitely not the Greatest. That said, Ice Cube is tripping ? Ng themselves Mt. Westmore too. The REAL Mt. Westmore is Ice-T, Dr. Dre, MC Hammer, and Too Short. Cube and Snoop just get a favorable mention but are actually both branches off of Dr. Dre’s tree along with Eazy-E who is the only one worthy to get the spot if you took Dre down (but again that would go back to Ice Cube who wrote all of Eazy’s lyrics). Those 4 names are the ones who really put West Coast Hip Hop on the map, and we’re trend setters as far as taking it to the Big Screen. They’re the ones who showed you what street nighas from Cali could really do. Anything else (including this current Mt. Westmore album) is bullshit.
