In an unusually crowed atmosphere for hip hop, there have been a ridiculous number of debuts this week. Young Buck is at the forefront of them as his album Buck the World debuts as #3 and manages to move 140k in its first week. One spot below is MIMS. Without making a stupid pun with “this is why I’m hot,” the Washington Heights native manages to move 77k in his first week with his album Music is My Savior.
Next in the debut line are Redman and Lil’ Flip. Red’s new album Red Gone Wild debuts at #13, and has the Brick City native moving 44k in his first week. One spot below, Lil’ Flip’s I Need Mine sells 43k this week. Further down is Prodigy, making his independent debut with Return of the Mac at #32. The album manages to sell only 27k in its debut. Tha Dogg Pound rounds out the hip hop debuts this week, with their album Dogg Chit coming in at a lowly #77 and selling only 11k in its first week.
This week sees many hip hop artists taking a dive. 8 Ball & MJG’s album Ridin’ HIgh drop 22 spots to #50, bringing in 15k this week (91k overall). Crime Mob drops from #31 to #64 as Hated On Mostly, to the tune of 13k this week (35k overall). Devin the Dude isn’t spared as he drops a staggering 41 spots to #71, with his album Waitin’ to Inhale selling 12k this week, bringing his total to 37k.
It’s not all bad news, as Young Jeezy is determined to hit platinum with Inspiration: Thug Motivation 102 selling 15k this week, brining his total to 983k. On the soulful tip, Musiq Soulchild holds onto a top 20 spot at #19, pushing 35k this week (283k overall).
