Hip Hop Album Sales: The Week Ending 5/1/2011

Not a lot changed on the charts this week, with the Beastie Boys’ digital pre-release of Hot Sauce Committee, Part 2 missing the Top 200 mark. Recent mainstay Chris Brown passed the 500,000 mark with his F.A.M.E. release, an album that features emcees Ludacris, Busta Rhymes and Tyga.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania emcee Wiz Khalifa‘s major label debut, Rolling Papers returned to the Top 10. The album features longtime Wiz associate Curren$y, as well as veteran Oakland, California Hip Hop pioneer Too Short.

Consistently neck and neck, Rihanna’s  Loud  pushes well past platinum. Bruno Mars’ debut approaches platinum, as Doo-Wops & Holligans gained another five spots this week, after 10 the week before.

DXnext alum Nicki Minaj and her Pink Friday gained eight spots to #27. The platinum Young Money/Universal Records release features Eminem, Kanye West and label-mate Drake.

As Vado has now signed with Interscope Records, this is second project, and the Diplomats’ CEO’s first since 2009’s Crime Pays.

Compton, California emcee/producer DJ Quik maintained a Top 100 in his second week of The Book of David. The self-released project on Mad Science Records project features Ice Cube, Bizzy Bone and veteran Quik collaborators Suga Free and Kurupt.

The Rhymesayers Entertainment co-founders Slug and Ant continue their evolution away from sampling, moving more towards live instrumentation for their most recent work.

T.I.‘s  No Mercy crossed the 500,000 mark. The December, 20101 release on Grand Hustle/Atlantic Records sits just under 499,000 units sold. The work features Eminem, Kanye West and southern Rap pioneer Scarface.

      1. Rae has never been a big seller moron….actually none of the Wu members solo have done well

      2. ^^^ that was in the 90s when everybody went gold cause you couldnt just download that shit a month before he album came out

    1. rick ross doin his thang!!! cant wait for that maybach music album it sounds like fire!!

    2. hey dx, give us updates on Recovery by Eminem please, and also the marshall mathers lp seeing as they are both in the top 100 at the moment! 🙂

      1. why do u need updates for eminems records?

he already sold a few million, who fucking cares how many more he sells,

      1. co sign. DJ QUIK numbers would be a whole lot better except you can’t find it anywhere. Another poor distribution job

    3. Tip doing good for no promotion and being behind bars when his album dropped. Only him and a few others can sell like that. Wait till he gets out. Free tip!

      1. Agreed.

BUT, i think its fair to say the album was actually pretty disappointing, so i honestly dont think it would hav sold many more copies anyway, regardless of him bein behind bars.

      2. Yes he would. Nobody knows how good an album is until they buy it. and if u listen to it on the net and dont buy it then ui werent a fan from the start. If he was visibally out promoting it all on tv it woulda sold much more whether the album was good or not.

      3. Yes tipster, ur probly right. Because the album obviously sounds different if you download it (sarcasm).

I can only assume ur a retard. The way listen to or obtain an album doesnt change the fact that it will be either a good or bad piece of music. In this case, it was an average album and nowhere near one of his best. Therefore, gold sales is fair and WOULDNT have been significantly different.

      4. shut da fuck up. u dont know me. i comment on this site to talk about rappers. not people. internet nerd. u have no identity do u in sult me

    4. Something fishy went down with the T.I album. One week it was at like 200,000 and the next week said it sold like 10,000 and was now at 450,000. I know it didn’t come close to gold.

    5. Rick Ross at 615,000??? WTF!!! i guess a whole bunch of cops bought his album..either that or Snitches

      1. If you got your name based on the Rapper Nas, sorry to say it but, Nas likes Rick Ross’s music. He even put one of his songs on a top 10 list. Stop dickridin’ Nas/other conscious rappers and get with the program bitch!
