Hip Hop Album Sales: The Week Ending 4/17/2011

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania emcee Wiz Khalifa‘s major label debut, Rolling Papers sold another 37,000 units in its third week in stores.  The album, which features Too Short and Curren$y, held a Top 10 spot, and joins Lupe Fiasco’s Lasers as part of Atlantic Records’ commercial comeback in Hip Hop this year, following success with B.o.B. in 2010.

Chris Brown continued to enjoy his F.A.M.E. The Jive Records release approaches the 450,000 benchmark, on an album that features emcees Ludacris, Busta Rhymes and Tyga.

Minneapolis, Minnesota veteran Hip Hop duo Atmosphere very nearly scored a Top 10 debut for their seventh official studio album, The Family Sign. The Rhymesayers Entertainment co-founders Slug and Ant continue their evolution away from sampling, moving more towards live instrumentation for their most recent work.

Climbing four spots to #17, Rihanna’s  Loud  pushes well past platinum. Bruno Mars’ debut approaches platinum, as Doo-Wops & Holligans slid a mere four slots in the new additions this week.

    1. It’s a shame Raekwon’s album left the charts.Oh well, those who understand hip-hop appreciate a bunch of good albums that were released in the past 2-3 months.

      1. If you don’t like the classic chef prepared you must be gay because there’s no other explanation

Even jim jones got an album that kicks ass outta everything on this gay list.
Good luck when coping lil B!!

    2. Do you want to earn some extra income on the side ? then join my village on varolo, its easy!!!!!w w w .varolo.com/village/haberdasheries

all you do is watch advertisements for 10 min and you get paid, but you have to join my village to do so.
P.S. this is no scam, straight internet hustle so get your bread up people!!!!

    3. JIm ones bricked. Chris won’t go platinum unless he pulls a bruno mars and stays on the charts for a very long time. Hopefully lupe gets gold again.

    4. Can you stop showing us RIHANNA SALES like you DID with EMINEM. WE WANT TO SEE MORE RAPPERS even if they’re Flopping we WANT THE NUMBERS

      1. I second that.. Not the flopping part but Just albums that were released earlier this year.. Id Like to see where there at now.. Rather Than posting Riahna or who ever ..Their already successful.. So theres no interest in it

    5. LOL, I C Atmosphere did Jim Jone’s numbers in their first week. Thats pretty good in this cd sales market. Jim Jones is straight BOOTY!

    6. Crazy Snoop had a multi platium past and can barely cray 100,000 these days. well at least he still doing what he loves smoking that cali chronic & making music. I’m sure album sales arent hurting him he has so much other venues to make that chedda! big up E-40 on his double cd once again.

    7. lupe will eventually go gold. peace up to the rhymesayers, though i haven’t actually listened to atmosphere’s music. jim needs to quit bullshitting and get back with cam and juelz and drop another diplomatic immunity vol.1 album..a classic. either that or just spit about something that’s relevant. also…get the heatmakerz back for their production.

    8. Record sales aint what they used to be its sad because these internet babies are thiefs. 300,000 is like platinum now its stupid! Now they make there money off of shows you bitch bum ass niggas cant spend $10 for a cd. Maybe they should make them $5 fuckin improvise record labels I bet you they would sell a lot more if a cd was only $5. Make me a CEO i get some bread! I go to peoples house and c4 it up for stealin my shit! Now thats Justice

      1. This is going to a terrible year for record sales. The artists must depend on touring more than ever.

      2. what the record labels should do is ask people who buy CD to sell the music. So lets say I buy a CD, I get rights from the record company to sell songs from the CD I purchased for say $.75. The seller in turn gets 75% of the sale with the rest going to the record company. They make money off of the CD sale plus the songs sold plus the consumer gets money as well. That will make people NOT want to share the music that they bought and instead make money themselves. This will then boost CD sales. Yup, i got this….OH, AND DONT TRY STEALING THIS IDEA. I’M ALREADY TALKING TO LABELS ABOUT THIS.

        Yo Capo,,,,lets do this! haha

      3. you dumber than a m.f.

that shit is a pyramid scheme and a terrible one at that.

in the long run most of the profits are going to “consumers/sellers” (or however you could describe that bullshit), no label, no businessman would ever agree to that.

      4. your not a ceo so shut the fuk up…i dont even need to hear jim jones album to know its garbage….my dick is harder then that lame….

      5. I buy rap cd’s, but your perhaps not going to find Lupe Fiasco or Wiz Khalifa in my collection. The last hip hop album I bought was that Black Milk cd from the previous year. Thats the big catch aswell, some of these charting artists aint even worth the download. Im just waiting for Madvilliany 2……….

      6. @rick
hahahaha thats the fuckin dumbest shit ive ever read, im actually sitting at my computer dieing from laughter that you even think that idea is a good one, let alone would ever work. LMFAO thanks for the laugh hahaha

    9. And the crazy thing is Jim Jones got the best album out of all these people on this weak list… Wiz album was trash…. lupe album was decent but nutin special… Snoop and E-40 was not good and Chris’s shit was kinda good…

    10. Swollen Needs more support, i personly bought 4 of there cd’s, 2 from pre order, one off itunes, and one at concert to get signed. Best album i heard for past 5 years, and hardly anyone will get the honor to hear it!!!! so go get it and TRY it out.

    11. Swollen Members and Atmos released dope ass albums. As far as I’m concerned – all other albums on this list suck.

    12. WOW WHAT A BUNCH OF SHITTY ASS MUSIC. A BUNCH OF WASHED UP RAPPERS, WOMEN BEATERS, NEVER HAS BEENS, OLD AND FOUND, TYPE OF ARTIST ON THIS WEEK. MUSIC IS FUCKEN DEAD, IMA GO BACK TO MY OLD SCHOOL HIP HOP MUSIC WHEN THERE WAS ACTUALLY EFFORT AND SKILLS PUT INTO IT. WEST, EAST, SOUTH, NORTH ALL FUCKEN LOST. FUCKEN NIGGAZ GOING POP AND MISTER CEE SUCKING DICK. WTF

    13. I hope Lupe making Lasers which is the equivilent to a lady gaga album was worth him getting knocked out of the top 100 rappers

    14. Sad man, why do rappers even make music? Even the ni99az thats considered hot in the game struggle to go gold these days, seems only em, jay, weezy and kanye go platinum!!! Wiz and Lupe only so far at 300,000?? Atlantic still losing money lol… Capo only selling 30,000? c’mon!! e40 at 20,000? seem like 40 water uses rap for a front cuz he aint makin no money from rappin! Do you know its nuttin for country artists or rock stars to go multi platinum or even Diamond lol. Saids so much about the Hip Hop audience.

Feel bad for these cats, they make music these days to only give it away on websites 4 free and their fans cant even go cop the actual album for 10 bucks lol…

      1. cuz they are apart of the culture. hip hop has broaden horizons. not to mention if they black they get in. fact.

    15. OMG these Rap numbers are pathetic!!! The game better bring back Dame Dash or somethin! Muthaluvas betta start flippin’ Roc-A-Pads like my man Dame to get that cash…

    17. ya cant be serious about that wiz khalifa shit and only reason jim numbers were low is because nigga downloading his shit for free jones album had 13 hot tracks which were all of them no lie

      1. hey homie tell me that site where u get this shits for free. huh times is hard no job been lookin no luck gettin one. alright my dude peace.

      2. lil boy jimmy jones aint shit and dont mean anything to the game of hip hop. you’re kidddig yourself if you thing otherwise.

    18. Real talk, I don’t even have a CD player in my home. I listen to music on Youtube, DX, and on my phone. Not only have I not bought a rap CD since Get Rich or Die Trying ( not literally, but you get the idea ), I haven’t heard anything I wanted to buy… even if I had a CD player!
There’s too much music out there. Too many people trying to rap. It’s sort of like when you’re in a strip club, and every girl keeps asking if you’d like a lap dance… sure, you’d like one. But with so many to choosed from, how do you decide which one is the best?

    19. no jobs no money aint nobody buyin cd’s. man all i been listenin to mixtapes. havent buy an cd this year.

      1. Reks – R.E.K.S. and Pharoahe Monch’s W.A.R., don’t forget to pre-order Armor Of God from Vakill and Random Axe, if you want to listen to real hip hop.
What a shame that Lupe’s weakest album his his best selling. I wish, I were able to erase Lasers off his discography. He fucked up his whole catalog with it.

    20. It’s a shame with these niggas becoming pop icons instead of hip hop icons.
Notice how some suddenly switched and went overtly commercial before doing big numbers in the digital age

Gotta commen Raekwon, Jim jones, Pharoahe monch, Skyzoo, Ghostface, Roc marciano, Lioyd banks, Freeway, 50cent, DJ premier and anybody else keeping shiy alive

    21. You got Lupe’s discography and out of his whole catalog the shittiest is the one that sells the most? Hip Hop is a hopeless case.

    22. wow …….. snoop went pop and he is wack in the charts, needs to retire and stop following wiz khalifa everywhere.
