Hip Hop Album Sales: The Week Ending 1/27/2013

After making a chart-topping debut last week, A$AP Rocky continues to move copies of his debut Long.Live.A$AP, which keeps the Harlem, New York emcee in good company alongside Bruno Mars and Mumford & Sons. But just outside of the top 10 lurks Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’ The Heist, which rises based on the success of their breakout single “Thrift Shop.”

New Hip Hop releases to the chart this week were scarce, as Christian Hip Hop vet Sho Baraka is now nowhere to be found following last week’s top 100 debut.

Check below to see who had the strongest week on the charts.

Long.Live.A$AP‘s Reign On Top Short, But Hangs On

A$AP Rocky had quite the debut last week. The Harlemite, who’s made a name for himself over the past few years with his breakout mixtape Live.Love.A$AP as well as guest appearances on T.I.’s Trouble Man: Heavy Is The Head and Big Boi’s Vicious Lies And Dangerous Rumors, bowed atop the charts with an impressive 140,000 copies sold of the LP, beating out Kidz Bop 23 by a 58,000-copy margin.

This week, the The RCA/Polo Grounds release holds on strong. The LP dips from the top spot to No. 7, selling an additional 38,000 copies – enough to put him between Mumford & Sons’ Babel and Bruno Mars’ Unorthodox Jukebox. The critically acclaimed album features guest appearances from a slew of emcees including Drake, Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz, and has spawned a pair of singles from the album including “Goldie” and “Fuckin’ Problems,” which was recently certified gold. Additional standouts on the album include posse cut “1 Train” featuring Kendrick Lamar, Action Bronson, Joey Bada$$, Danny Brown, Yelawolf and Big K.R.I.T.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis Continue To Hijack Charts With The Heist

Independent artists Macklemore and Ryan Lewis show that hard work pays off. The Seattle-based duo dropped their collaborative debut The Heist back in October, bowing at No. 2 with 78,000 copies sold. Since then, the pair has steadily grown on the charts thanks to the success of the platinum-certified “Thrift Shop,” which hit the top of Hot 100 last week. Now, the LP continues to ascend thanks to the renewed interest. This week, the set drops one spot from No. 11 to 12, keeping a strong grip on the top 20.

The group is also shooting a video for “Can’t Hold Us,” which could positively impact sales of the album.

      1. I think Trouble man will go platinum..sooner or later.. Its doin better than No Mercy & No Mercy is sitting right under platinum now!

    2. props to the homie Game, classic album selling itself, no tour or second single yet, and sitting at 182k…congrats to kendrick, going platinum soon…WEST COAST coming back…feel bad for Big boi though, a Legend doesnt deserve to go out like that…

      1. ^ i’m the first anonymous Jesus Piece ain’t no classic but its a great album remove songs like Celebration and Church the album is straight crack!

      1. Please tell me you’re joking. Lil Wayne? Drake? Them niggas are destroying hip-hop. And you forgot Jay Z and Kanye West.

      1. Y u keep sayin the same thing every week?? Idk about game or wiz…But Tip did NOT flop! Dude is selling more than almost evrybody and he’s selling more than his last album..Thats what progression and returning to your place of prominence.. With great numbers

      2. @Tipster. He keeps saying the same thing because he is looking for a response. That Macklemore album was out like 2months before T.I. and has the #1 song in the country and still has not sold as much.

    3. Kendrick Lamar still doing consistent numbers, nice. He will probably hit that 1 million mark midway 2013. Great for hiphop!

      1. he has almost moved 250,000 worldwide and that’s what his label goes by because unlike you, his label is worldwide in the game.

      2. Bullshit. He ain’t selling 250k worldwide. Chief Keef stans making excuses to justify Chief Keef’s failure. Interscope losing a lot of money thanks to this nigga.

    4. GAME Album is tight regardless of sales you fags are just mad because your gay over rated crew Laughterhouse flopped! Weak ASS group. Weak ass label Yela needs to leave asap.

    5. Lamar> ASAP> WIZ> Game> BIG BOI> TI > Everything Else blows this year

Budden is a joke what a fucking irrelevant wack as rapper with his weak attempt to go pop…. FAIL! Just like fucking gay ass Slaughterhouse whole group trying to rap like Brotha Lynch..Fuckin Joke you white dudes sweating Shady nuts

      1. lmao….FOH Kendrick’s Lyrics > Game’s Lyrics but Game’s Flow and Delivery >> Kendricks Flow and delivery rest of the name you mentioned are just wack

    6. CHI-ILL..I thought I told you to get of this site you groupie, always commenting on my sht..you know nothing about hiphop..you a young cat trying to be a grown man..internet thug need a hug..get lost fool…hiphop lives on in the WEST COAST..

      1. hahahahaha You calling me a groupie? but you the one that dedicated a whole post to me!? hahahahaha

Just let me ask you one question “truth” why yo fav artist still trying to jock them niggas in N.Y. (G-Unit)?
Lowlife? hahahaha sure bud! Far from being a lowlife
What else you say? I was writing all them other comments? Sounds to me that be something you be doing….
But either way, get back on Game sack lil nigga
Both of you Fags have a great day!

      1. True but he still hasnt sold 500k yet!

At last report the album was at 438k sold. That means there is 60 thousand God Forgives, I Don’t albums collecting dust in stores.

      2. Dude you got your information from wikipedia LOL. That information was reported back in October. It’s fucking January now and he been passed the 500k mark.

      3. If he passed 500k it would have been on this website and he would have been bragging and congratulating him self on video or twitter!

The fact that his sales haven’t been reported since October means he ain’t selling shit no more! Same goes for Meek Mill!

Show me some proof that “he been passed 500k!”

      4. ^^Because albums in the hip hop/rap genre have been severely affected by illegal free downloading. The Recording Industry of America changed the rules of the game. When an artist sells 400k it’s certified gold and when they sell 800k it’s platinum.

      5. ^^^ no one changed the rules of the game you retard! when you ship 500k albums to stores you’re certified gold, you ship 1 million you’re platinum. that’s how its been for decades now.

      6. no obviously he means ship, albums are certified based on shipments not sales. Check anywhere you want and we speak the truth you beavis and butthead fuck.

      7. dont even waste your time arguing with these kids, we been through this before, provided the proof and they still claim links from the RIAA are fake and wrong

    7. “an impressive 140,000 copies sold of the LP, beating out Kidz Bop 23 by a 58,000-copy margin.” F***ing KIDS BOP sold over 100,000! What the hell is this world coming to…

      1. Obviously fake. Ross hasn’t even hit the 500k mark. If he did, we’d be hearing about it and Ross would’ve tweeted about it.

      2. Alright I found it on the previous page.

He’s sold 501 200, LOL just barely made it

Still though i was wrong, you were right!

He’s not fucking with Kendrick though!

    8. Congrats to Game! Even though it was a flop but this is just off the strength off Celebration and a few interviews. Still a flop but selling 180K just off a trash single is good if you ask me

    9. “True but he still hasnt sold 500k yet”

I’m sure we can agree on the fact it had no lasting power on the charts. I’m a little surprised considering even 2 Chainz has managed to stay on the charts. Just goes to show people don’t support Ross like they have other rappers.

    10. i have the top 4 albums and i paid for them all so im glad to see theyre doing good. kinda sad that more people dont pay for the music they listen to

      1. Quality>Quantity. Ross stans trying to justify his Ls and attacking another rapper. Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, Eminem, and many other rappers have a bigger catalog than Ross.

      2. call you when Kendrick has six albums? what the fuck does that even mean? how is that supposed to affect or account for anything, you got cold feet when it comes to rising rappers?

GKMC alone owns about three of Ross’ best albums. or Section80, rather.

    11. “homie is 37 years old, still hasnt got a a platinum album”

Seriously dude, what is your obsession with going platinum? Do you wear platinum pajamas? Did you dye your hair platinum? Gold is widely accepted as the new platinum now, so it doesn’t really matter if Ross ever “officially” goes platinum. It’s not stopping his movement.

      1. What movement? The “I’m a phony who lies about his past and endorses a lifestyle I never lived” movement? GTFOH. Ross is a failure.

    12. “What movement?”

Being an entertainer, retard. Whether you like him or not he’s making more money than Kendrick and will be around alot longer, assuming he has a physical sometime in 2013.

    13. Kinda surprised T.I. hasn’t gone gold yet. He needs to drop a new video or somethin cause he’s sort of going back under the radar as of lately.
