This week saw debuts from Pusha T and Danny Brown. Meanwhile, Drake remained in the Top 3 overall with Nothing Was The Same. Still, none of the above could match-up against Miley Cyrus in sales as her new album Bangerz hit #1 in the Billboard Top 200 chart.
Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz sold approximately 271,000 units in its first week helping the actress-singer land at #1. Cyrus, who recently began to rap, as showcased on Mike WiLL Made It’s “23,” enlisted several Hip Hop-based acts for her new album, including Nelly, Big Sean and French Montana. Cyrus’ raps have been criticized by some, but several figures in Hip Hop have defended the young singer, including Mike WiLL Made It.
“The fact that anybody would say anything to her about rapping, the only reason they would say that is because she’s White,” Mike WiLL Made It recently said in an interview with Complex. “And I never knew you had to be Black, White, Asian, or whatever to rap, I thought you had to just be talented. With rapping, that’s just another form of expressing your music. Whether you’re going to rap, you’re going to sing, it’s whatever you want. She still sings on that song, so it’s just another way to express it. It’s just a good song. As long as it’s good, nothing matters. She does her thing. As far as rapping goes, as long as you are telling the truth and you have a good flow, then you win.”
Cyrus landed at #1, followed by Panic! At The Disco’s Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die, which sold more than 83,000 units in its first week. They were followed by Drake’s Nothing Was The Same at #3.
Drake’s Nothing Was The Same Lands At # 3
Drake has managed to remain near the top of the charts with Nothing Was The Same. Drake’s album opened at #1 on the charts when it debuted. This week, it sold more than 82,000 units, helping it surpass Hip Hop debuts from Pusha T and Danny Brown. To date, Drake’s Nothing Was The Same has sold more than 889,000 units. Last week, Drake sold 148,000 units. This week, Drake made headlines after the rapper-singer-actor reportedly dropped Future from his Would You Like a Tour? run. This week, BET also released the full version of Kendrick Lamar’s reported Drake diss at the Hip Hop Awards. Drake has yet to speak publicly about the reported diss.
Pusha T’s My Name Is My Name Opens At # 4
Pusha T’s My Name Is My Name, a project he’s often called the year’s best, debuted this week at #4. The album sold more than 75,000 units. In an interview published October 7, Pusha T spoke with HipHopDX about the album. “I just think that it’s different episodes of my life,” Pusha T said of MNIMN. “I really pride myself in making street, Hip Hop music. I felt like, that was sort of needed, and I felt like that was the void that was missing in Hip Hop. There’s lot of great Hip Hop out there, but as far as street, Hip Hop goes, I can’t really say there’s a true spokesman for it like myself. So, that’s how I’m looking at it.” My Name is My Name features production from Kanye West, Pharrell Williams and The-Dream, among others. The album also includes contributions from various artists, including Chris Brown, Rick Ross and Kendrick Lamar.
Danny Brown’s Old Lands In The Top 20
This week, Danny Brown opened on the charts with Old. The album, which has garnered critical acclaim, landed in the Top 20. Old sold more than 14,000 units in its first week. In an interview published October 3, Danny Brown spoke with HipHopDX about the project, likening his music to drugs. “My dope is the most potent,” Brown said. “I put it on the block, and it do what it do. They stand in front of the house a couple times and catch a couple sales. But when I put that stamp on the street, I got the fire pack, and don’t nobody else want your dope no more.” Danny Brown’s Old features production from Paul White, A-Trak and JMIKE, among others. Old also includes work from other artists, including ScHoolboy Q, Ab-Soul and Freddie Gibbs.

The last two albums he released RED and Jesus piece went gold within the first Month. and a couple months after they were certified platinum.
