Daddy Yankee, a self-proclaimed “real New Yorker,” is enjoying his album’s release. The rapper, who hit the scene with mainstream hits such as “Gasolina” and “Rompe,” has already released his new LP, El Cartel: The Big Boss.
While most know him for his reggaeton style, Yankee has many high profile Hip-Hop and R&B acts on his album. The man who once worked with G-Unit has enlisted the help of Will.i.am, Fergie, Nicole Scherzinger and Scott Storch.
Another person he is working with is Akon, who produces and sings on the new LP. The two worked on “Bring it On,” which could be Yank‘s next single.
“I’m rapping in the song, in Spanglish,” he told MTV. “I’m a real New Yorker. I grew up in the Bronx too. … It’s one of my favorite songs, and the people who have heard the album [said] it’s one of their favorites too. Akon gave me the beat, and when he heard me on that song, he was like, ‘Oh my God, I didn’t know you rapped.’ And coming from Akon, him telling me I’m a professional — and he’s on top of the game right now and real talented — and when he told me that, it’s just a good feeling.”
How did Akon react to this?
“He told me, ‘I don’t know what you saying, Yankee…but the flow sounds tight.’ “
Daddy Yankee‘s new album El Cartel: The Big Boss is already in stores.
