According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, South Philly author and native Antonne Jones claims that the idea to 2002’s movie State Property (which featured both Jay-Z and Dame), is his.
Jones says that the plot was taken from his book The Family: A Philadelphia Mob Story. He claims both Hov and Damon Dash met with him in 1998. He allegedly offered them the rights to the story for $500,000, but was only offered $50,000.
After rejecting the lower offer, Jones says he never heard from either Dame or Jay again. However, the State Property movies were released, with the first one grossing 2.1 million.
