Here’s Why Twitter Wants To Trade Chris Rock For Jerry Seinfeld

Celebrated comedian Chris Rock was Twitter’s number one trending topic on Saturday night (December 22) after a 2011 clip of HBO’s Talking Funny resurfaced. In the video, Rock is joined by fellow comics Ricky Gervais, Louis C.K. and Jerry Seinfeld who are discussing the “N-word.”

As Gervais and C.K. are casually throwing around the racial slur, Rock joins in and laughs along with them.

Rock tells Seinfeld and Gervais how C.K. is “the blackest white guy” he knows. C.K. responds by asking Rock, “You’re saying I’m a n****r?”

“Yes,” Rock replies. “You are the n****r-est white man I have ever [met].”

Gervais is clearly entertained by the whole exchange but Seinfeld is visibly uncomfortable. In fact, Seinfeld is the only person who speaks up.

“You’ve found the humor of it,” he says. “I haven’t — nor do I seek it.”

Twitter lit up with reactions to the controversial video. Even Chance The Rapper chimed in and commented, “I remember finding out Louis CK wrote and directed pootie tang,” which clearly didn’t sit right with him.

Now, Twitter is asking to trade Rock for Seinfeld.

    Check out the reactions below.

    1. It’s amazing how liberal midea (I’m a liberal BTW) has somehow made it so te dirt ammendment is null and void. We have FREEDOM OF SPEACH. Anyone is allowed to use the N Word. If you punch them for doing so, you’re going to jail for assault. Stop giving power to a word that black folk throw around all day. It’s hipocracy and downright fuckery. All the people involved in this incident OBVIOUSLY aren’t racist. They were trying to be funny. That’s their job. Sometimes it doesn’t work. How fucking sensitive is everyone? Comedians are like rappers, they come up doing shows in shitholes for free, amongst drug addicts, criminals, nerds etc. they would NEVER have made it to the limelight being racist. They are all allowed to have their own opinions. If you don’t like their shit, don’t support them. Now everyone is shitting on Chris Rock, one of the most progressive, intelligent black artists of te last 30 years or so, because he allowed comedians to speak their minds and do a bit? Please collectively go duck yourselves. Chance the rapper is a beta soy milk cuck. He’s basically a Jaden Smith that can rap a hair better. Fuck his opinion too.

    2. Wow. Really, no big deal. What a bunch of whiney bullshit… I live the way all of this crazy witch hunt shit is turning on Hollywood itself, particularly black men. Hart, now Rock. I’m I the only one finding irony in this horseshit? They’re comedians for god’s sake.

    3. This shit only happened 7 years ago and was no deal at all. But here in 2018, once social media tells you to be outraged, everyone is suddenly outraged…. because, well, that’s just how people are today. Soft, whiny, complainers and hypocrites.

    4. Comedians should be able to say what they like. Its the creative process, you need to figure out whats funny because nobody knows where the line is until they try it. And 7 years ago was a long fucking time ago for western society. Theres probably a bigger social difference between 2018 and 2011 than there is between 1980 and 2011.

And of course, these guys are all comics and friends who have known each other for years and have that familiarity with each other where they can say these things to each other without offense being caused. Maybe HBO shouldn’t air the show again with the current social dogma, but thats another issue. Stop retroactively chastizing people for standards that weren’t invented yet. The funny thing is that all the people in the outrage mobs now are going to be old and out of touch in 10 years and get in trouble for all the things they said now which in the future are no longer deemed appropriate. Somebody has to break this ridiculous cycle.

    5. I remember seeing this when it aired and I couldnt stop laughing. Even though I dont agree it was a funny segment. And I also believe comedians should be allowed to joke about whatever they want and never say sorry for it. Tell twitter I said fuck off.

    6. This is so moronic…. every comic has some relation to edgy and offensive humor – grow up … FYI – Seinfeld was banned in my house growing up after one episode of his show depicted a character burning the Puerto Rican flag at the PR Day Parade in NYC – I find both of these comedians to be funny but my father didn’t and to be honest it wasn’t even Seinfeld who did it, my point is – everyone has an issue around race related jokes, if you’re using the N word and getting hurt feelings about other people using it? you were never down to begin with. And if you’d ask Seinfeld how he felt about it – I’m sure he’d tell you that NO ONE should ever use it – because you don’t need to do it to be funny. The same way you should
Be able to rap without using it (especially if you have a Pulitzer Prize behind you).

    7. Again hypocritical af. Black folks use the word every day dozens of time, gave it a second meaning, made it part pf pop culture and now its more popular as it ever was. If you have such a problem with the word boycott rap music, tell everybody to stop using. You cannot create a problem and then whine that the problem exists. Lets be real 99% we hear the word these days is from black people are white dude singing it along their fav rap song. Imagine how chilled it would be if we would only hear the word from the 1% of real racists using it.

    8. Man… ridiculous. If you’re familiar with Chris Rock’s specials – and I mean ALL of them since 1996 – you wouldn’t have an issue with this clip. If you’d do your research, and watch all of his specials, you know how much he cares for the black community. I guess this is another case of seeing a short clip, knowing almost nothing else about that man’s history and general context, and just claiming some bullshit. And the trolls are jumping on board. ALWAYS understand the context (the times, a person’s agenda etc.) of something you see or hear. This was in 2011. They have a conversation about comedy. And ONE aspect of comedy, in general, is to test the boundaries, the social norm, accepted behavior – so that it can POINT to social issues, conflicts, absurdities, etc. DON’T BE OFFENDED by every little thing you see or hear when it doesn’t fit your personal ideology. Should white people in general say that word? Hell no. But in this clip, they TALK about the fact the Louis is one of the very few white comedians (the all beloved Neal Brennan did that too, fyi!!) who does it on stage. But before you jump to any conclusions, WATCH THE JOKES from Louis’ special and see in what CONTEXT he uses that word. And yes, you can still say that it’s not okay for him – in any context – to use that word. But maybe, if you watch the jokes, you feel different. Whatever the case – is this thing really as big as everyone’s making it right now??

    9. Some negroes cry about water being wet. This had much ado about nothing. Let’s stop these cops from shooting unarmed Black men. Let’s stop poverty! Let’s stop Black on Black crime! Let’s stop drugs in our communities! Lets continue to expose people calling the police on Black folks for doing normal activities! But, don’t cry about dumb shit like this!

        1. I hate Louis CK but have you seen the clip he dropped the Nbomb in? It was pro black and saying whites would have to pay for what their ancestors did… no one seems to be mentioning that. It’s probably why Rock defended him.

    10. I’m with you. You can’t pay attention to people’s tweets. They always have something to say and most of them are just ignorant or misinformed.

    11. This happened 7 years ago, it was discussed and dealt with 7 years ago. Now people bring it up again because they want to be angry at something. Louis C.K has been using that word since forever, even in his stand-up specials and nobody cared. You can’t go back and get outraged at everything that has happened in the past. If you missed it, too bad, everyone else has moved on, stop bringing up old shit. Society now is like a shitty girlfriend in that sense… yes, girlfriend, kill me for not being inclusive to BOTH genders (that’s a whole other crazy conversation to be had).

    12. outrage culture example #110800

these people on social media LOVE to find something to be outraged about. ain’t got nothing better to do with themselves smh

    13. White people…seeing black friends and family members (or just other fellow humans) strong reaction to that word should be enough to not use it. Have some empathy and get out of your logical thought process. It may not seem fair but so what. You don’t get to decide how people of color react to racism, just be cool…

      1. Strong Reaction?? Black People call everyone and everything the N-word 1000 times a day. Where is the strong reaction there? If you dont see the double Standards and ignorance in the whole Argument then I cant help you

          1. YOU’RE not serious, right? Black people drop N-Bombs ALL DAY like nothing. Fuck anyone’s reaction. I don’t use the word because it’s RUDE. I think it’s dumb as fuck for black people to use it as well. We have the FIRST AMENDMENT that clearly says we can say ANYTHING we want. Dumbass. How are people not rallying against this witch Hunt? I thought the context in witch Louis used this wasn’t funny at all, in his stand up routine it was. He was making a point about the power we give stupid words and the ridiculous consequences they could have. Dummy.

    14. I wanna know when the Young Turks are gonna respond to this so people can dig up how many times they’ve said the N word over the years.

    15. Only problem with this beside chris rock being cool with them saying the n word is that let’s not be naive and think this shit isn’t happening behind closed doors. These guys are friends and just like a lot of people, we let are friends say shit that doesnt fly in public. You can’t let this get to you if it didn’t in 2011.

    16. Im sorry but even tho non-Blacks are saying it doesn’t make it right, And I bet if a regular White m/w called a Black person the N word they’d feel disrespected.

    17. Was there/is there an uproar when Chris Rock & Charlamagne says cracka a cracka? Nope. Fake & hypocritical outrage here

    18. The big deal is we can say it amongst each other. But colonizers can NEVER say it. And you re not one of us; then neither can you n your opinion doesn’t matter!

      1. Shut up Nword (I’d type the real thing here, but would get sensored) we have FREEDOM of speach in this country. It’s called the first ammendment. Take that “colonizer” bullshit and shove it straight up your ass. It’s called Darwin’s theory. The Chinese invented pretty much everything before modern technology, including gunpowder, they were never colonized. Strange right? I bet you’re wearing laced shoes, a T-shirt or collard shirt and pants with a belt, right? Your also on the internet, using a CPU or a smart phone. All shit created by the colonizers. Hypocrite idiot. Then some skinhead piece of shit drops a N bomb near you, you punch him in the face, and you catch a front and go to prison out here in the “colonies.” You should just never speak or type dummy. People like you are the reason racism and modern slavery (the prison system) are alive and well. Jackass.

    19. This is those trump supporters MINING the internet for shit that happened 7 years ago. Fucking internet. Like Smokey in Friday says why are you bringing up old shit?

      1. Cause no one pulled up anything on Trump or other political candidates from their last lifetime? Fuck You. You’re probably white yourself. Self-hating pos.

        1. Just because he’s white doesnt mean he needs to have some blind loyalty to sewer slime like trump or you. What idiots like you don’t understand is that if you are middle class (or lower class in your case) you may as well be black or mexican to the 1 percenters that trump represents. But toothless hillbillies like you just hear catchy racist catch phrases that peak your interest so you blindly follow a man that actually hates people like you. Talk about self hate.

    20. As much as I didn’t like the conversation I find it weird that social media has gained so much power that we can be the judge and executioniiner. There is a difference in a joke and a mean spirited/ignorant attempt of a joke. People chiming in on social media are always going to type what our minds tell us because out inner thoughts make us self righteous. However we usually wouldn’t type what our thoughts and actions under the circumstances others are in. People say (all of us) stupid shit all of the time wishing we wouldn’t have said it or said it differently.. I saw that clip a couple of years ago and thought it was dumb to say but it didn’t offend me. Look I have a 6 foot 235 pound cousin that’s gay and I laugh and joke on him all of the time. It’s not bc he’s gay it’s bc he looks like 50 cent in a dress which is funny. He doesn’t get his feelings hurt, he thinks it’s funny in context. In short let’s stop this self righteous shit and unearthing shit that was said a couple of years ago. These are words not a past sexual assault. Hell if we are going back to shit we start here #slavesaretheoriginalme2s.

    21. Watch, tomorrow night Chris Rock is releasing a Netflix special: Blackest Christmas Eva. I was lucky enough to see it and it’s the best Rock stand up I’ve ever seen. This time next week; all will be forgiven-wait ’till you see! Black folks will be LOVING him again next week. “Yo money, leave Chris alone, B. He a’ight… He a’ight… He made Blackest Christmas Eva!” Rapist, murderers, pedios… they all get a pass if they make something entertaining for the black community and, most importantly- they’re black! If this is such a problem, why didn’t anyone pull him on it 8 years ago when it first aired. Whoever started those tweets, I wouldn’t at all be surprised if they are white! “Let’s see how much I can make these cry babies bitch and moan over Christmas.” ALWAYS CRYING ABOUT SOMETHING!!! Word

    22. Chris Rock been Stealing scenes sents I’m Going To Get You Sucker and New Jack City ! Did Seinfeld sign Wale to some kind of new deal ? Lou would be a great new character for the movie ( The Wire ) from the hit HBO show he would be the Ireland plug ! Song of the day Wale & Gucci Mane ( Girls )

    23. A lot of you need to let the hate for your father go and stop behaving like your bitter, scorned mother. You are all a bunch of betas.

    24. Maybe if that word offends black people so much in 2018, they should stop using it in every sentence that comes out of their mouths. Soft as hell mentally…

      1. Thank you so much.I am Black, too, and I am so tired of all these hypocrites Who now want to act outraged at use of the N word when we say it to each other all the time. Why not lash out at hip hop artists who use the word in the hip hop songs many of us regularly listen to,while we are venting all this fake hatred and disgust.

    25. Y’all allow 69, cardi b, and any white boy out and about to use the word so how about keeping that same energy at all times y’all just making noise cuz Chris Rock is a legend and he got a career

    26. IMO, we give the N word too much power. If you feeling some kinda way cause “that’s what my ancestors were called right before they were killed” (Chris Carter) then stop using it. Just like women saying “ imma down ass bitch” then getting mad when someone says “ hey bitch come here.”
