Hamilton star Brandon Victor Dixon has responded to President-elect Donald Trump’s demands that the cast of the hit Broadway Hip Hop musical apologize for their message directed toward Vice President-elect Mike Pence at the end of a show last week.
Appearing on CBS This Morning on Monday, Dixon simply told hosts that “there’s nothing to apologize for.”
Explaining why he made the statement on behalf of the Hamilton team, Dixon said “Well, the producers, the creators and the cast, we recognize that Hamilton is an inherently American story told by the definition of the American community. We are men and women of different colors creeds and orientations.”
“The resonant nature of the show throughout the world, throughout the global community, demands that we make statements when there are important issues facing up as a community,” he continued. “So we wanted to stand up and spread a message of love and of unity considering all of the emotional outpour since the election.”
Trump had accused the cast of Hamilton of harassing his VP pick after Dixon had delivered a respectful address to the Vice President.
Speaking to Pence, Dixon had said: “We, sir — we — are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights,” he said. “We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us.”
In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Pence said he wasn’t offended by Dixon’s comment, saying he and his family “enjoyed the show.”
The ongoing news story also inspired the #NameAPenceMusical hashtag on social media.
Maybe I’m a little lost here, but how is this news on a hip-hop site? Please explain in detail, looking for paragraphs and proper sentences people….discuss….
You answered your own question. Because you are lost?
Hamilton, unlike other plays/shows is diverse and hip hop inspired. If you are not familiar check it out, better yet attend. Plus, addressing the Vice -President elect is about as hip hop as it can get.
It’s a hip hop inspired play. They rap every word of the play. Plus it has hip hop icons attached to it behind the scenes like Questlove, so there’s that too….
The ‘lecture’ given to the Vice President elect was harmless, but appeared to be driven by this notion that the left wing media has been pushing, which loves to imply that Trump is going to deliberately harm minorities, gays, etc. I’m no economist, and I know that some economists have said that, in their opinion, his policies will be bad for the economy, which means that poor communities will suffer, and minorities are disproportionately represented in this demographic, but hopefully that prediction goes unfulfilled, and he isn’t going to initiate some holocaust against black, Latino, or gay people. I know that a lot of people follow the mainstream media that has been hinting at some doomsday scenario like that, but use some critical thinking and you will realize that that is completely delusional to believe. We need to unite under Trump, stop letting the media tear us all apart. He may not be the perfect candidate policy-wise, but his intentions are as good as any candidate, for all LEGAL citizens regardless of race.
oh so you didn’t live thru the Reagan era…
