Halle Berry Adds Nicki Minaj To Queen Of Hip Hop List After Only Crowning Cardi B

Cardi B has been pitted against Nicki Minaj since at least 2018 when she blew up with “Bodak Yellow.” The narrative continued over the years as the Bronx rapper’s star power grew and the two rappers engaged in both online and in-person beef.

Actress Halle Berry reignited the debate over the weekend when she called Cardi B “the queen of Hip Hop” while plugging her forthcoming Netflix film Bruised.

During a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Berry stood by her sentiments regarding Cardi B but made it clear there’s room for more than one queen at the top.

“Here’s the thing, there’s room for more than one queen, people,” she said. “That’s what we need to know. Nicki is a queen in her own right, H.E.R. is a queen. All these ladies to me are queens. There can always be more than one.”

She continued, “Queen is a term that we use to describe great,” she said. “You know, we’re all a queen. All we do all day is say, ‘Hey queen!’ ‘What’s up, queen?’ ‘Yeah, queen!’ ‘What’s happening, queen?’. … Queen, queen, queen. We’re all queens.”

Cardi B, who contributed to the Bruised soundtrack, quickly addressed the chatter via Twitter on Sunday (November 14).

“I know how some of you girls like to tussle over this typa childish shit… but ntm on Halle Berry,” she wrote. “Anyway her movie #BRUISED dropping THAT SHE DIRECTED HERSELF on Netflix on November 24th. The FIRST female rap movie soundtrack!! we produced together out this FRIDAY!”

    1. What does Halle Berry have to do with hiphop? Why does her opinion make the news? By the way I bet she doesn’t know MC Lyte, Boss or Lady of Rage.

      1. Using your logic of sales = king/queen of hip hop, you think that Vanilla Ice was the king of hip hop in 1990, despite albums from Public Enemy (fear of a black planet), Ice Cube (AmeriKKKa’s most), Tribe (People’s Instinctive…) Brand Nubian (one for all)…. etc etc etc….

    2. who the hell is Halle to speak on music, calling these 2 QUEENS of hip-hop? Watered down, manufactured pop rap of the last decade, sure… but with her being “of age,” she should know better!

    3. Neither of them are particularly skilled at actually making music. Cardi at least says funny and whity things from time to time…

    4. I wonder if halle heard of foxy brown.. Lil kim..missy elliott just to name a few. Cardi or nicki are not Queens in my opinion. Iv yet to hear a female rapper that fills that role. At this point In time the throne is empty.
