Glasses Malone took to Twitter yesterday (November 4) to express his approval of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s criticism of Michael Jordan.
“Me & Kareem Abdul Jabber agree on Jordan….,” the Watts, California rapper writes with a link to a Fox Sports article entitled “Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: Michael Jordan chose shoes over human rights.”
The article quotes an interview with NPR where the NBA all-time leading scorer outs Michael Jordan over his “Republicans buy sneakers, too” comment.
“You can’t be afraid of losing shoe sales if you’re worried about your civil and human rights,” Abdul-Jabbar says. “You can’t be worried about that. That’s just the way it is. He took commerce over conscience. That’s unfortunate for him, but he’s got to live with it.
In an interview with The Breakfast Club in September, Glasses Malone expressed similar sentiments toward the basketball legend.
“I don’t wear Jordans no more ’cause he be into all of that,” he says about Jordan’s connections with the prison industrial complex. “He invests in all that. He invests into more prisons than schools. I ain’t really into him right now. I won’t buy another pair of his shoes for sure.”

I haven’t found any reputable source stating that the basketball player Michael Jordan invested money in prisons. I did find something about a politician in Oregon with the same name investing in prisons.
Kareem was referring to Jordan refusing to help Harvey Gantt (a politician) beat Jesse Helm in an election way back in 92′. I don’t care who he’s running against, Gantt isn’t entitled to Jordan’s endorsement just because he is black. Gantt might have had GREAT intentions, but that doesn’t mean that he was competent enough to actually get anything done. All he wanted to do is exploit Jordan and Jordan was right to be cautious at that stage.
Kareem complained that he was taken for granted a few years ago. That’s probably because he stuck his neck out too many times. That’s what Jordan was avoiding when he decided against endorsing Gantt.

I think you are misunderstanding what the guy is saying. He is saying with a different choice of words that black people should be more mindful of what they support.
