Game Talks About Pharrell, Meeting Eazy-E

Hard Knock TV recently caught up with Comptaon rapper Game to discuss his recent smash LP The R.E.D. Album. During the interview, Game responded to R.E.D.‘s executive producer Pharrell’s comment in a prior interview that he was the most underrated rapper. While he said that he appreciates the support, he feels he can only be considered underrated by the fact that he abstains from many of the typical rapper traits, such as wearing chains or attending award shows.

“Most underrated rapper? I’ll take it if it came from Pharrell,” he said. “The reason he probably said that is because he knows what I’m capable of. I don’t think I’m ‘underrated,’ because you can’t sell as many records as I’ve sold being underrated. I just I don’t think I get as much notoriety because I don’t do the things that other rappers do: I quit wearing chains and jewlery and shit. I don’t go to award [shows], you don’t see me on the red carpet. I’m not off in the clubs, I don’t go to…Miami for Memorial Day and hang out with the sluts. I don’t do that. I’ve got kids and people to take care of. I’ve got things that occupy my time other than the facets of the everyday ‘rapper life’. That’s just not me.”

Game also spoke on meeting founding member of N.W.A. Eazy-E on the set of the video for “Compton City G’s” in 1993. He said he’ll always be grateful for not only what Eazy said to him as a child, but the kind of love he showed to the CPT up until his passing in 1995.

“Compton is real tight knit, so [Eazy] was shooting a video for…[‘Compton City G’s’],” he explained. “It’s funny how that was a diss to [Dr.] Dre and grow up to be Game and signed to Aftermath. But I was there…and I said the line that every kid said when he meets one of his idols: ‘Yo Eazy, I wanna grow up to be just like you!’ And he was like, ‘Nah, little man, you don’t wanna be like me; you wanna be like President Regan. You wanna be President’…But after that, I would always see Eazy in the hood, giving out toys and on Thanksgiving, he would always have the truck giving out turkeys. Kinda like Nino and them did in New Jack City. Eazy was always the guy to do that…he did a lot for my city, and he definitely did a lot for Hip Hop.”

Watch the full interview to see Game talk about getting shot five times and his latest album The R.E.D. Album.

    1. Ok, i got to give credit where credit is due, this is the first time game open up his mouth and made sense and made himself look real smart, he got a point with not doing all that fake stuff them other Rap cats doing fronting making these kids think its all sweet.

    2. i would like to see a game album that doesnt reflect the current state of hip hop. Cause when game makes an album you see a hybrid of what is in. Rick ross, drake, wayne, and this is not just features but production, beats and concepts are just weak man. and i support game bought all his albums so dont call me a hater i just know this dude can make an album that would last forever, however his releases thus far have been forgotten besides some tracks like dreams.

    3. Weird how they were shooting the video for compton city g’s 4 years before the actual song was made, good work hiphopdx.

Got so much more respect for Game after this

    5. Game’s album is real good….go buy that shit…he would have sold more if wouldn’t dissed Jay…but this dude is real

    6. i think what pharell meant by underrated was that game is often looked as a weak lyrical but in his view he is not.

    7. he’s lying about eazy e… why did this nigga not say that before? just like after mj died he was like ‘mj was calling me to put an end to beef with 50’ fuckin bitch.

      1. Your fucking retarded he’s always been saying that he said it a lot when he first came into the rap scene wat do you expect that he’s always goin to say it and talk about that one topic his hole life smh

      2. he is lying. dude said it was ’89 and that song wasn’t until ’93. and Regan wasn’t President in 1989, the first Bush was. that would be a big moment in his life and he would’ve remebered little details like that unless he’s two-thirds of a fuckin’ retard. and dude’s right, he would’ve mentioned that before. I don’t doubt that Compton is tight knit but it’s a city of 96,000 people, everybody can’t know everybody like that.

      3. @Ryan

Can you read? It obviously wasn’t him who said it was in 89 since it wasn’t a quote you moron. That was HipHopDX’s fault.

Why did you go to VMA this year? bipolar as always

      1. Um he didn’t go you idiot. He only did the red carpet. He didn’t go to BET Awards this year either only did red carpet. And prior to that he didn’t even go to the red carpet so learn ya facts idiot.

      1. SMH……. Just admit it, he hurt your feelings for going after Uncle Otis and now you dont like him anymore

Because I dont see any other reason why someone who liked his first 3 albums wouldnt like the Red Album, its just as good as Doctors Advocate & LAX were

      2. Westside Story, Dreams, Hate It Or Love It, I Don’t Need Your Love, Church For Thughs, Start From Scratch, The Documentary, Like Father, Like Son >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> all his other work combined.

      3. Uncle Otis? Fuck Uncle Otis. Game IS better than Jay at this point UNQUESTIONABLY however that’s not saying much. However you’re out of your fucking mind comparing RED to The Documentary…RED is like a west coast P Diddy album – lame pop attempts and a million guests with no substance whatsoever…I’m sorry dude but RED is fucking trash.

      4. I would LOVE The Documentary Pt. 2 more than all those other sequels, damn, Game was my favorite rapper back then.

50 went on to claim he wrote on more songs on Game’s The Documentary than he was credited for, including “Church for Thugs,” “Special” and “Higher.”

“I did so much on his record, I did six records,” 50, who is featured on The Documentary’s “Hate It or Love It,” “Westside Story” and “How We Do,” scoffed. “To take the time and energy from what I’m doing on my record and create his record, then have him go off at his mouth like that and be disrespectful … “Game had actually been on AftermatH for TWO YEARS before they gave me the opportunity to do the project with Dre,” 50 told MTV in January. “I think creatively they were stuck a little, but then when I was brought in we were able to add new energy. They got excited about the project, brought him out, we recorded like nine records at the house in Farmington, [Connecticut]. He went back to Los Angeles with the records, Dre liked them, and I just got him re-motivated and he went in and finished up the album.”The Game and 50’s marriage was never a natural union to begin with. Game was originally signed solely to Dr. Dre’s Aftermath imprint, working on his album for a couple of years before Interscope Chairman Jimmy Iovine proposed bringing Game into the G-Unit fold. Iovine talked to Dre, who called in 50.

GAME IS A TRUE STUDIO GANGSTA

    11. got love for game. documentary n doc advocate are beasts. mixtape game in that era youknowwhatitis ghost unit stop snitchin classic. lax and red are dope. the 4 or 5 tapes in this era been nice. people aint lookin for him tho. 3 number 1s and a number 2 album aint a bad look tho

    12. next hes gona say he chilled with big and pac when he was a kid 2, THIS NIGGA IS A LIE-ABETIC WITH LIE-ABETES!

      1. Nah Game’s pops was one of either Dre or Eazy’s bodyguard at the time it’s a known fact. This isn’t the first time he told this story.

And DX were the ones who wrote that Compton City G’s was in 89 not him.

    13. Just because you assisted with the structure of a song or you added a word to a song they will give you writers credit. Same as Beyonce claiming she wrote Irresplaceable. She does that type of stuff all the time. Didnt write the concept of the song but added her 2cents you gonna get writers credit. If you go to all of 50 cents song or his biggest hits you will see anywhere 2-5 people given credit for writing those songs. so what is your point?

      1. the point is GAME SAID 50 cent only helped on the songs he was featured on when 50 claimed he wrote the other songs game said he didnt game was in aftermmaths basement before he hooked up with g-unit now he a hit maker gtfoh you a sheep

      2. Listen to a Beyonce interview and you can tell she is way too dumb to write a song by herself. Bey doesnt even have a GED, her dad just pimped her looks all the way to the top.

    14. WTF?? There is a story bout this nukka errday! I’m guessing he runs DX…. Or just trying to hype the album once again? Come On Son!!!!!

    15. Yo someone need to tell me where is the Headquater for DX is at man, i got to go see for myself, cause i know Game is working there for real he got a 9 to 5 there, DX always got this nigga on there page everyday all day, that why he dont have time for the Red carpet or the rap live style to bussy at work co-running DX.

      1. im startin to think the same thing bro! lol i love games musis but damn man he always got somthin to say!! i wish i could chill and smoke one with game id ask him a million questions and u know he wouldnt have any problem answering them! lmao!!!

      2. Bro, i am guessing the same thing he wouldnt have any problem answering any question, only problem would be is he telling the true, he switch up his answer to much to the same question, Like Lil Eazy said this nigga is not even from compton and never meet his Pop’s

      1. Yo i know son, i was with that nigga when he got shot son, he told me to go get him a soda and bring to the hospital

    16. when i was 10 i had a paper route and i wouuld deliver to dre house and sneak in to hear his beats he didnt know i was there

    17. This nigga doesnt even know you arm-crossers exist? Yet day in and day out, you mfkers run your mouth like you know him. You lames need to stop, seriously.

    18. Yo Game what lil Eazy said, they know me but they dont know you stop lieing nigga, you should be call the lieing King

    19. this shit sounds so cliche and made up..lol..Game just wanted some way to be connected to another westcoast idol. As much as Game likes to name drop i highly doubt that he wouldv’e waited this long to have told the world about this story..
