Freddie Gibbs has sparked excited for a new album by kickstarting a mysterious rollout featuring iconic horror movie character Freddy Krueger.

All around Los Angeles, billboards have popped up featuring the villain’s glowing eyes alongside the notice that “Freddie’s Back” and a phone number to call.

When the number is called, fans can hear Krueger snarling while addressing the person on the other end of the phone as “little rabbits,” a nod to Gibbs’ bunny mascot.

The phone call also features references to the rapper’s past albums Piñata, $oul $old $eparately and You Only Live 2wice.

According to TMZ, the voice on the recording is actually original Freddy Krueger actor, Robert Englund, who first played the role in 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street.

Freddie Gibbs also recently teased a horror-themed project on one of his burner Instagram accounts, with the animated video featuring a bunny wearing a Jason Vorhees hockey mask.

The clip also contains a brief snippet of an unreleased song which hears Freddie spit dope boy rhymes over a spooky instrumental.

All signs point to the as-yet-untitled project dropping next week to coincide with Halloween, but a release date has yet to be confirmed.

The Gary, Indiana native has previously teased upcoming projects with frequent collaborators Madlib and The Alchemist.

Earlier this year, Madlib told fans that a third collaborative album with Gibbs was on the way, saying at a show: “Y’all ready for Freddie Gibbs? About to drop this live shit on y’all. Montana next up.”

In 2023, Freddie himself revealed that he was working on four new collaborative projects with Madlib, The Alchemist, Boi-1da and an unnamed artist.

“I’ma hit y’all with some shit that y’all thought y’all was ready for, but you really ain’t ready for,” he told XXL. “Alchemist and Madlib ain’t goin’ nowhere, so keep that in mind. And me and Boi-1da in the studio now real, real, real heavy.”

He added: “I’m making the best music of my life, so it’s no reason to stop. And I’m the king of R&B, so I gotta do that album as well.”

Despite the promises of new material, the usually prolific rapper has been quiet of late, with his last album $oul $old $eparately arriving in 2022.
