Freddie Gibbs & Benny The Butcher Trade Shots Online As Beef Heats Up

Until a few days ago, the bad blood between Freddie Gibbs and Benny The Butcher largely flew under the radar. But now that their issues are out in the open, things are only heating up.

The tension between the two rappers came to light during an interview on Spotify Greenroom’s Most Necessary: Live earlier this month, in which the Griselda MC said his working relationship with Gibbs — which includes the collaborations “Frank Lucas” and “One Way Flight” — “came and went.”

After catching wind of his comments on Thursday (March 24), Gangsta Gibbs jumped on Instagram and fired back. “N-gga said ‘working with Freddie Gibbs came and went.’ I know some other shit that came and went too, n-gga,” he responded, alluding to Benny’s recently released album Tana Talk 4.

“Just keep my name out y’all mouth, man, when y’all talking to people who are doing interviews and shit. Just say ‘next question, man. I don’t want to talk about that n-gga, man.’ Just say ‘next muthafucking question.’ For real.”

After their souring relationship made headlines on Friday (March 25), things only intensified over the weekend as the former collaborators exchanged subliminal shots on social media.

“I never seen these n-ggas tough nowhere but the internet,” Benny The Butcher tweeted on Friday evening, seemingly addressing Freddie Gibbs’ response to his “came and went” comments.

The following day, Gibbs returned with his own Twitter jab, writing, “Shout out my Houston n-ggaz,” nodding to the city where Benny was shot in the leg during a robbery attempt in November 2020.

On Sunday (March 27), Benny ramped things up by claiming Gibbs “begged” to do a joint album with him. The Buffalo, New York native previously hinted at the project back in 2020, but said it “probably won’t” happen during a recent interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden.

“How can u hate on a n-gga u begged to do an album with…TT4 OUT NOW !!!” he tweeted.

Freddie Gibbs fired back with a series of Instagram Stories, dismissing Benny’s “begging” claim while accusing him of fabricating a beef to promote his new album.

“N-ggaz whole marketing plan for they album is to beef with Freddie Gibbs. That’s cute,” he wrote, before adding, “If u opened for me before just be grateful.”

In follow-up posts he wrote, “Why would I beg a n-gga to work with me when he do less than me? Next time just get the Drake verse cleared and u ain’t gotta do all this for promo,” referencing Benny’s yet-to-materialize collaboration with the OVO hitmaker.

He continued, “Head up fade solve everything. But y’all n-ggaz ain’t got the nuts to sit in a room alone with me for 5 min.”

Gangsta Gibbs continued to respond via Twitter, writing, “I ain’t mad cuz I know they just doing it for promo. Fuck em. Everybody can’t love us.” Benny The Butcher has yet to address the topic further.

As previously reported, Freddie Gibbs and Benny The Butcher’s feud appears to have been brewing for some time. Last September, Gibbs tweeted “it be hard for me to listen to n-ggaz after they got robbed,” months after Benny’s Houston shooting.

In October, Gibbs fired off another curiously-timed tweet when he wrote “n-ggaz don’t put the cities they got robbed in on the tour dates” shortly after Benny announced his Burden of Plugs tour, which listed a show in Austin, Texas, but not Houston.

Benny was the one doing the Twitter taunting in December when he posted several crying face emojis hours after Gibbs allegedly caught the fade from Jim Jones at the Miami restaurant Prime 112.

      1. His music been in A game that’s been popping over 10 years! Plus more music in more games after! He definitely got his name out there

      2. He was popular on his area and some underground circles thanks to Madlib mainly. But he become more popular when he started using twitter…

    1. there’s a lot of weird subliminals in these verses these dudes spit on each others records. I think it’s a bad practice. I’m not interested in random collabs.Just makes everything sound generic and pulls dudes into stupid beefs like this one. If dudes never worked together to begin with most likely it wouldn’t be beef

    2. He’s the one who started this with his shit talking about Benny after he got shot and then escalated it again when Benny said their time came and went. At no time did Benny talk shit, Gibbs has been acting like a hoe for a solid 4-5 years now. It’s sad.

    3. Freddy started this shit. Benny done went out his way to publicly big him up. Show love. Then this clown starts cracking jokes when the man could barely walk after taking a bullet in broad daylight at a crowded store parking lot. That shit was damn random but Fred acting like it was something street about it. Those guys made the wrong move and it was repercussions. Jack boys out here taxing any and everyone but Fred got jokes. Fuck em, he outta pocket much too often. Whole family look like Copland

    4. This is dumb “beef” I seen both live at concerts several times met Benny briefly once. I know they’re “hardcore gangster rappers” but they’re good dudes and fathers outside of that, at least I believe that from following them for years. They need to let bygones be bygones. Talk it out like men and get over it. Probably not a popular opinion

    5. I really like Freddie Gibbs as an artist…on records. He’s a decent actor, too. The antics on social media are bringing his stock down though, at least with me. I get that he holds 50 Cent in high regard and might be trying to use “beefing” and “trolling” to get his name ringing more but he’s just losing any favor that he had out here.
Making fun of a man for getting shot is five star cornball behavior especially considering Gibbs almost got popped out a few years back himself.
They need to sit down or get on the phone and stop all this subtweeting like two teenage girls.

    6. This era is so lame when it comes to quote on quote beef. The first thing dudes do when they got a problem is go on twitter or instagram. What happened to making diss records

    7. As far as music is concerned Gibbs can’t touch the butcher wit a javelin stick, seems like Gibbs started that BS, Bennyneed to air him in out in the lab and spit that ?
Shot out to GRISELDA and TRUST ??
