Fela Kuti’s Son Checks Kanye West For Mentioning Father’s Spirit

Fela Kuti’s family isn’t playing when it comes to Kanye West. After Fela’ son Seun Kuti caught wind of the comments ‘Ye made about his late father earlier this month, he issued a statement on Instagram assuring people Fela’s spirit has nothing to do with the G.O.O.D. Music boss.

In the caption, Seun calls on Ziggy Marley and Ebro Darden to check ‘Ye. Kanye also name-dropped reggae legend Bob Marley during his Twitter rant.

“Erm erm on behalf of the Kuti family, I want to state that the spirit of Olufela Anikulapo Kuti isn’t anywhere near Kanye West,” he wrote. “@ziggymarley over to you. @oldmanebro come get ur boi before I #getthesax.”

Along with the statement, Seun reposted a video clip of ‘Ye’s original comments.

“The music [in Africa] is the best on the planet,” Kanye said earlier this month. “I am the best living recording artist. We, rather, because the spirits flow through me. The spirit of Fela, the spirit of Marley, the spirit of ‘Pac flows through me. We know who’s the best.”

‘Ye, of course, is in Uganda finishing his ninth studio album Yandhi and evidently ruffling feathers along the way.

    1. Fela Kuti is one of Africa’s best artist bit then I doubt you’ll ever know him coz clearly ur in love with Donald Trump’s ass kisser, the same man who said George Bush hates black people is the same man after another white man Donald trump.

    2. Kanye is no Fela, Marley or Pac musically or as a man period. These men were REVOLUTIONARIES who spoke out against injustices in their own nation and abroad. They would never kiss the ass of the type of person that is Donald Trump. I’m sure the comment section will be full of bs but ye aint it bruh bruh.

    3. “I am the best living recording artist.¨ hahahahaha

    4. West is nothing compared to Fela, no be any other hip hopper rapper.

    5. Its alright..fela or no drug hip flow…Ye’s intellectual is far more different…so watch on..for You Ye..i need to be free of substance addiction..that reminds me of 2pacs lyrics….never get 2much of smoking and drinking You hold back’’….for now ye..just do ya thing..man..and congratulations..

    6. Ye’s ego will only keep getting more outta whack. As a former diehard fan I look forward to watching everyone try to keep defending every stupid thing he does.

    7. You know what’s sad? That the world has come to this. I’m not even gonna a state the fact that Kanye West contribution to music far outweighs Fela’s contribution because truthfully speaking just go out unto the streets see how many people can name two Fela albums? Just two. Is Fela a legend? Yes. is his son in the right for attempting to belittle a man who’s legacy far outweighs his father’s? perhaps. Did Kanye need permission to give props to a legend he looks up too? No he does not.
