Drake fans in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania were in for quite the disappointment this week when they purchased tickets to a Drake show that turned out to be part of yet another scam involving those falsely representing the artist.
According to Philly.com, individuals claiming to be Drake’s manager and tour manager booked two shows at Stroudsburg’s Sherman Theater. The phony managers then had the theater sell tickets for $50 each; both shows sold-out.
The president of the theater became suspicious when the fake managers started asking for a portion of ticket sales.
Both shows have been canceled and those who purchased tickets to either of the shows will receive all of their money back. Authorities have been called in to investigate further.
This isn’t the only time the Canadian rapper/singer’s name has been used under false pretenses. In September 2010, two men faced a lawsuit from a promotions company after receiving thousands to book artists like Ciara and Drake whom they had no association with.
And in May 2009, a fake Drake album was posted on sites like Amazon, iTunes, and Rhapsody for profit through a company called Canadian Money Entertainment.
