An 18-year-old aspiring rapper from Windsor, Ontario, lost his job after stealing Kim Mather’s cell phone and contacting her ex-husband, Eminem.
“I’m just really desperate to get my music heard,” Kyle Spratt said.
“I’m not having a good life…and I feel that my music could really
help me if I really made it.”
Kim Mathers is said to be a regular player at Paradise Bingo, the
family business where Spratt used to work, before he was fired for
snatching her cell phone while she was smoking outside. The
Spratt family gave the cell phone back shortly after it was taken (a
month ago), but not before Spratt wrote down the personal numbers
for Shady Records stars Eminem and Obie Trice.
Spratt called Eminem a few weeks ago, and asked him to listen to a demo track.
“He was a real asshole,” Spratt said. “He pretended it was wasn’t him, and he did a fake voice.”
It was confirmed he had the right number when he received a phone call from Detroit police warning him to stop harassing Eminem. Spratt recorded the conversations he had with Detroit Police as well as Eminem and sampled the tracks in a song called “Slim Shady is a Sellout,” displaying of his new hatred for the rapper.
The song was posted on Spratt’s myspace page and received 1,400 hits in two days, however, it was removed and the high school drop-out was confronted by Windsor
police detectives.
“The reason they called originally was because the phone had been
stolen and there was allegation, apparently, although we haven’t
confirmed this, that the kid wanted to talk to Eminem and get some
promotion and if he wasn’t going to get it he was going to post
pictures of Eminem’s children on the web,”
Windsor police Insp.Greg Renaud said.
Police checked Spratt’s computer but didn’t find any photos.
He said Miss Mathers misunderstood one of the text messages he sent her,
leading to suspicion of stolen photos. “I was trying to get her going. She assumed that I took pictures off her
phone, which I did not. They said Kim thinks I’m going to put out
pictures of her kids that were on the phone, which is not true. Kim was
doing that to stir the pot” said Spratt.
According to reports, Kim Mathers will not be pressing charges.
