DX News Bits: Notorious B.I.G., Bun B, Curren$y

More than 13 years after the death of Notorious B.I.G., fans and friends still mourn the loss of his life.

In interviews with NPR, childhood friends told stories of when they first met the young emcee. “We tried to go to the studio at the age, I believe, of 13,” said Sam Hubert who met Biggie in daycare, and would eventually become his deejay. “My man Mike’s dad dropped us off. It was crazy. People don’t know that he really did take it serious at a young age. “

Rapper AZ, who met Biggie while rapping on street corners, added, “Big influenced a generation. This whole generation took pieces and bits. Everybody took a piece out of Big that’s on the charts right now. Everybody.”

In other news, Bun B‘s upcoming album, Trill OG, will feature several artists from his home state, Texas. Featured on the album are Texas natives Slim Thug, LeToya Luckett, and Play-N-Skillz. The emcee said that Texas, while low-key, is still relevant to Rap.

“Texas has had incredible moments in the history of Hip Hop,” he told Billboard. “But there is a misconception that because we aren’t at the forefront that we aren’t here at all. But we’re still making music, going on tour and getting in front of and connecting with the people.”

Bun B’s third solo album, Trill OG, releases on Aug. 3.

Finally, Curren$y will be featured in LRG’s Fall 2010 clothing collection. The photos for the collection were shot in the rapper’s home city New Orleans, and includes fourteen individual themes.

Curren$y’s first studio album Pilot Talk released last month.

    1. Pac was the best rapper every, BIG you cant lie the nigga had mad flow. The industry and the media divided the friendships, crews, the niggas on both coast. Pac was more on social issue and that real thug life, BIG had grimmey niggas on some icy get money shit. Personally it’s like Malcom and Martin respect the fact they gave so much to the game. You should ask yourself who profit from that deaths! Hmm Suge Puffy, and the White label exec. Pac had a movement like the black panthers, he could rap about money but he made you feel like he was in the hood everyday on the block he never lost touch with the people. BIG actually brought NYC out of the 80’s comma bullshit LL was doing shit, Nas and Rakim hadn’t drop in a ny mintue no disrespect to Rakim or Nas.Listen to the Nigga punchlines, they are super witty. Divide and conquer is the name of the game. Now black have no music at all. The south you have to make up dance and really what the fuck are these talking about and i live in the south, West Coast has been MiA since Sept 13 1996 RIP Pac and the west coast.
