DX News Bits: Nas & Damian Marley, Dilla Tribute, General Steele

Nas and Damian Marley will be performing their new record “Strong Will Continue” during BET’s “SOS Saving Ourselves – Help for Haiti” benefit and telethon concert this Friday (Feb. 5).

This will be the duo’s first televised performance of the single, which is off their much-anticipated collaborative album Distant Relatives. Other performers during the concert include Ludacris, Mary J. Blige, Kirk Franklin, and Ne-Yo.

Hosted by Sean “Diddy” Combs, Queen Latifah, and Pharrell Williams, the “SOS Saving Ourselves – Help For Haiti” benefit and telethon concert begins at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

In other news, the Bronx Museum of the Arts will be hosting “Looking For The Perfect Beat: A Tribute To J Dilla” on Friday night (Feb. 5).

The free four-hour event, which begins at 6 p.m., will showcase the talents of John Robinson, Illmind, El Da Sensai, and Daniel Joseph, along with a live beat battle competition.

Finally, the track listing for General Steele’s Amerikkka’s Nightmare Part 2: Children Of War has been revealed.

With features from Dead Prez, Flood Diesel, and Hasaan Salaam, Steele explained the album is not only a declaration for today’s generation to learn about the past, but also to build for the future. “America the beautiful has an ugly past. It is the people who live in this great country who have struggled relentlessly to establish this country under the basic common human & constitutional rights that all people should have.”

He added, “These rights have at times been suppressed and our vision of a ‘land of the free’ has been compromised. Some people are complacent with the state of our nation, others are speaking out.”

Amerikkka’s Nightmare Part 2: Children Of War is due out February 23 on Bucktown USA Ent./Duck Down Music. You can read Steele’s latest DX editorial here.
