DX News Bits: El-P and DJ Spinna

Def Jux founder El-P is currently setting the stage for the release of Weareallgoingtoburninhellmegamixxx3, a new project slated for an August release via Gold Dust. The former member of Company Flow is planning for this release to be somewhat of a follow up to previous mixes that carried the same name.

Fans can expect a release in some ways similar to Company Flow’s Little Johnny From The Hospitul (1998), and his own Collecting The Kid (2005) and it will consist of instrumentals.

“I wanted to do little mini-movements that had a real beginning, middle and end and then moved on,” El said in a statement. “The challenge for me was taking all these seemingly unrelated little pieces of music I had laying around and fitting them together as a cohesive piece. I wanted to craft a record that had an arc.”
 
Making it clear that it’s not much like J Dilla’s Donuts, this project was influenced by Dilla’s work.

“Like Donuts, I wanted to keep things short and to the point. I think that’s an aspect of instrumental music that so many more people can relate to. I didn’t want anyone to listen to this record and at any point get bored.”

According to El-Producto, this will hold fans off until the new album comes but he also added that he treated it as a proper album.

In somewhat related news, DJ Spinna has released Underground Forever, a compilation of underground favorites and independently released tracks from the mid 90’s.

J-Live, Eminem and Greg Nice make appearances on the album.
