Drake Performs “Too Much” On NBC’s “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon”

Leading up to the release of his third studio album, Nothing Was The Same, Drake stopped by the Hip Hop friendly “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” show yesterday (September 13) to talk about his album, as well as to deliver a short performance, as per hiphopsince1987.com.

When asked if the album artwork portrayed Drake as a child he affirmed. “Yeah it is,” he said, “It’s a gentleman by the name of Kadir Nelson, phenomenal artist, and I connected with him. He like spent some time with me. We came up with this idea for the album cover, just sort of reflective. There’s actually a grown up version of me, which is the deluxe album, so on the shelf they’ll be looking at each other reflecting on what a journey it’s been.”

Fallon joked that the hair pick portrayed in the artwork is similar to the one used by his “Late Night” bandleader, ?uestlove.

“I worked with a lot of amazing people, Drake said. “I made the whole album with 40 [Shebib]. He’s kind of my right-hand man. He’s a producer. We do everything together. So he pretty much oversaw and produced the whole album, but there’s a lot of different collaborators on there. Jay Z’s on there.

Sampha’s on there, we’re actually doing a song that nobody’s heard tonight,” Drake added in reference to the track titled “Too Much.” The song, which is the penultimate on Drake’s upcoming album’s tracklist, was premiered on the show just one day after the release of his “Wu-Tang Forever” single.

Drake began the performance with a heartfelt message to his loved ones. “Before I do this song I just want to say, to my friends and family,” he said, “I want the best for everybody. I love you all.”

Sampha, a musician and producer from London, accompanied Drake on stage, playing the keyboard and singing the song’s refrain. The two have collaborated previously on a song released alongside the announcement of Nothing Was The Same called “The Motion.”

Drake appeared on the show alongside actress Scarlett Johansson and also announced his post-album tour. “I’m going on a tour,” he said, “It’s actually called ‘Would You Like A Tour.’ It’s 41 cities. We start in October. It’s grueling.”

He also added on that R&B singer Miguel and rapper The Future would accompany him on the fall tour.

Drake’s Nothing Was The Same is slated to be released September 24.

      1. This track’s the best one I’ve heard off of NWTS. Dope, unless you’re in the business of hating everything “mainstream”

      2. That’s your opinion — and, in the grand scheme of things, you’re probably on an island with that opinion. The song’s got a like-to-dislike ratio of 190:5 on Hot New Hip-Hop … and yes, those opinions are just as valid as yours.

    1. Is there a finer white actress than Scarlett Johansson?? Somebody let me know because I think Scarlett has the crown right now….

    2. Anyone who says they hate this track and calls themselves “real hip hop” is full of shit. Amazing performance. Amazing song. Just dope on all sides. Stop frontin

    3. Jimmy Fallon is that nigga! Started the week with a Yeezy surprise performance to start the week and ended it with a Drizzy premier. Anything with the Roots>>>>>

      1. NBC, is affiliated with Universal Music Group through Universal Studios. Kanye West, Drake, The Roots are all Universal Music Group employees. Jimmy Fallon ain’t do sh^t except go to wardrobe.

But please continue to ride Jimmy Fallon’s nutsack. Arsenio is back. We can enjoy his show for the meanwhile before you weirdo groupie stargazers wanna watch & chime in with your bullsh*t.

      2. And why won’t Arsenio last?

Glad I can see so clear that my last sentence predicted your comment before you thought and posted it.
